This includes both the unit commander and the platoon guide. Each team must be organized into three (3) squads with each member armed with a demilitarized M1 Garand or M16 rifle. The unit commander must carry a sword with belt and scabbard or a rifle.The platoon guide must carry a standard eight-foot (8’) staff with the unit guidon attached.Each school may enter only one (1) team in the platoon drill competition.UniformEach unit must wear the utility uniform. Marine Option Midshipmen shall wear MARPATs, and Navy Midshipmen shall wear Type III utilities. If units have not been issued Type III, units may wear Type petition AreaThe platoon drill competition will be held in the ARC basketball courts, a hardwood surface. Teams entered from schools with members from other service branches shall consist of four (4) members: two (2) color bearers (National Ensign, and Service Colors) and two (2) riflemen. Each school may enter up to two (2) teams in the color guard competition, with only their top team’s score being used for the overall score.UniformEach unit must wear the utility uniform. MECEPs and OCs are permitted to participate.Schools may submit up to two (2) male teams and up to two (2) female teams. Only the top male team and female team scores will be used for the overall score. UniformEach team will wear ‘boots and utes’ for the duration of the race. Lite boots are highly encouraged. Team members must wear the service appropriate utility trousers and a matching PT shirt. Water sources such as Camelbaks are highly recommended, but not required, as there will be water stations set up along the route.Course OverviewTeams will be escorted by a Midshipman bike marshal on an eleven (11) to thirteen (13) mile route throughout the Ohio State University campus. The course will be continuous with various stations set up along the way intended to test each team’s overall fitness, communication skills, and cohesion. Teams should be prepared to carry weight for the entirety of the course. Female teams will run the same course with less weight.GearThe Ohio State University NROTC unit will provide all equipment necessary to compete in the Endurance Race.Pistol Competition1.5.Date06 APR 2019LocationConverse Hall, Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range 2121 Tuttle Park Place, Columbus, OH 43210Team Size and CompositionEach team must consist of four (4) shooters for the pistol competition.Each school may enter only one (1) pistol team.UniformEach team will wear either NWU’s, MCCUU’s, the service equivalent uniform, or unit polos with jeans and closed toe shoes. Shooting accessories such as jackets, mats, and spotting scopes will be allowed.WeaponsOSU NROTC will provide .22 caliber pistols for competition; however, teams will be expected to furnish their own ammunition.To assist units with equivalent practice at your unit, RUGER Mark II’s and III’s will be utilized. Shooters will be one handed at 50FT shooting on a NRA B-11 Target.If Units are unable to facilitate practice at your unit via Civilian Ranges, tOSU has incorporated a Practice session prior to the match (2 Hours). We will cover weapons handling, course of fire, and practice shooting.Course of Fire.2 Magazines of 5 Rounds in 300 Seconds2 Magazine of 5 Rounds in 30 Seconds1 Magazine of 5 Rounds in 10 Seconds1 Magazine of 5 Rounds in 10 Seconds Due to state laws on transporting ammunition, Units may coordinate with the AMOI or Midshipmen POC’s to purchase ammunition on their behalf with reimbursement if the situation applies. Weapons may be stored in the OSU NROTC unit’s armory, located at Converse Hall, with permission from the AMOI, Gunnery Sergeant Robinson.Each team is ultimately responsible for the safe transportation and storage of their weapons.Suggested Ammunition - (400) rounds of .22 Caliber Long Rifle.Upon completion of the Shooting Competition each unit will identify (2) Top Shooters to compete in the Top Gunner Cup. This event will consist of a PT evolution and 5 Shots, one handed, at an unknown distance in 15 seconds. Ship Handling Competition1.6.Date05 APR 2019 and 06 APR 2019LocationConverse Hall2121 Tuttle Park Place, Columbus, OH 43210Team Size and CompositionEach bridge team will consist of four to five (4-5) individuals with no age, gender, or service requirements.The team leader will be designated as the “Officer of the Deck,” one team member will be designated as the “Junior Officer of the Deck,” one team member will be designated as the “Conning Officer,” one team member will be designated as the “Helmsman,” and an optional team member may be designated as “Quartermaster/Lee-Helmsman/RADAR” as seen fit by the team leader.Each school may enter no more than one (1) team. UniformBridge teams will wear NWU’s/MCCUU’s.Ship Handling OverviewBridge teams will be given a brief quiz pertaining to ship handling and the Surface Warfare community followed by a navigational challenge scenario in USS Carmen (DDGS-71), a Navy ship simulator which replicates the pilothouse of an Arleigh-Burke Class Flight IIA guided-missile destroyer. The quiz will cover COLREGS and Chapter 8 of the Watch Officer’s Guide. Bridge teams will be tested on their leadership and communication as well as ship-handling knowledge and skills including: safe navigation, the rules of the road, and maneuvering boards. The scenario will be scored as a time-trial with points assigned relative to placement. Both the quiz and scenario performance will make up the total score for this event. Recreational SportsKing-of-the-Circle Competition1.7. / 1.7.1Date06 APR 2019LocationAdventure Recreation Center855 Woody Hayes Drive, Columbus, OH 43210Team Size and CompositionThis will be an individual event with no age, gender, or service requirements. Cleats are not allowed.King-of-the-Circle OverviewThe competition will be a double-elimination tournament featuring head-to-head matchups. Individuals will be given a “bumper ball” and will start on opposite sides of a circle. Then, in a best-of-three match, competitors will attempt to push each other out of the circle.3v3 Basketball Tournament1.7.2. However, only the top staff member’s score from each school will be used in determining the overall score.UniformIt is recommended that each competing staff member wears PT gear, however, there is no mandatory uniform.Staff Competition OverviewThe staff challenge will be a surprise event. Information will only be released on-site immediately before the start of the competition. OSU NROTC staff members will not have any input on the challenge and will be informed of the events at the same time as the staff from all other units. SCORING AND AWARDSOverall WinnerThe overall winner of the 2019 Buckeye Nation NROTC Drill Competition will be determined by adding up the total points earned by each school from each event using the weighted scoring scale listed below.Endurance Race (male) – 17.5%Endurance Race (female) – 17.5%Platoon Drill – 20%Pistol Competition – 15%Color Guard – 7.5%Squad Drill – 7.5%3v3 Tournament – 5%King-of-the-Circle – 5%Ship Handling – 5%Unit Staff Challenge – Bonus 5%AwardsTrophies will be awarded to the schools who take first, second, and third place overall.Trophies will also be awarded to teams that take first, second, and third place in the Endurance Race (both male and female), Platoon Drill, Pistol Competition, Squad Drill, and Color Guard.Trophies will only be awarded to the teams that take first in the 3v3 Basketball Tournament, Ship Handling, King-of-the-Circle Tournament, and Unit Staff Challenge.In addition, a trophy will be awarded to the top shooter in the Pistol Competition and Top Gunner.Awards CeremonyAt the conclusion of all events, an award ceremony will be held in Remembrance Park. All schools are encouraged to attend; however, the ceremony is not mandatory. The uniform will be either NWU’s, MCCUU’s, the service equivalent uniform, or unit polos.
