Qualifications:

The following qualifications are needed to lead this vibrant educational community:

- Must have three (3) to five (5) years of exemplary teaching experience

- Must have valid and appropriate Ohio Department of Education administrative license

- Must have the ability to organize, supervise and administer school and curricular programs and to work collaboratively with all members of the school and community

- Must have experience in building continuous improvement with a focus on student achievement

- Must have a strong work ethic and high energy level

- Focus of work on Lower House Culture and Supervision; Student Discipline; Ohio

Graduate Test; and 9th Grade curriculum Transitions from Middle School Level

- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

CONTRACT: 11 months with full benefits package

COMPENSATION: Commensurate with training, experience and ability

Job Title: Assistant School Principal

Reports To: Principal

FLSA Status: Administrator

GENERAL DESCRIPTION – The Assistant Principal will assist the principal, building personnel, parents and students in providing for the educational well-being of each student in the school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Does supervise conduct within the school, and oversee all disciplinary procedures, and keep records of any disciplinary action at grade level.

• Does supervise the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with the attendance supervisor for follow-up actions.

• Does assist the principal in the general administration of the school.

• Does assume and share responsibility for day-to-day functions of the building.

• Does assist teachers with problems of attendance and pupil behavior.

• Does assist the principal in the supervision and improvement of classroom instruction.

• Does coordinate the carrying out of safety measures, fire and tornado drills, and any other emergency procedures.

• Does share in the supervision and evaluation of staff.

• Does enforce all policies in the student handbook.

• Does supervise cafeteria during lunch periods, pupil activities, and bus transportation.

• Does assist in the preparation of a school calendar.

• Does participate in establishing and maintaining community relations.

• Does utilize all resources of the school system and the community in developing an effective educational program.

• Does promote good school-parent relationship in all contacts with the home.

• Does arrange for class coverage when substitutes are not available.

• Does participate in the building principal's meetings and such other meetings as are required and appropriate.

• Does keep abreast of developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals, and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.

• Does perform such other tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the principal and associate principal.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must have a master's degree or higher.

• Must have Principal's license issued by the State of Ohio.

• Must have at least three years successful experience as a classroom teacher.

• Must satisfy all job related attendance requirements.

• Must satisfy all job-related medical and physical ability standards.

• Must satisfy all job related training requirements.

• Must be able to move around considerably but also to remain in a fixed location for a period of time.

• Must be suited for situations that require the ability to adhere to set guidelines, but also flexible enough to use own code of ethics in decision-making.

• Must be suited for situations that require the ability to plan ahead, yet remain flexible enough to adapt to new situations or react to emergencies.

• Must be suited for situations that require the ability to interact well with other people, but also the ability to work alone.

• Must be suited for situations that require the ability to relate to others without being overly demanding or overly tolerant.

• Must be suited for situations that require the ability to express one's own thoughts and ideas to others as well as follow instructions or directions.

• Must be suited for situations that require the ability to personally excel as well as work as part of a team on an interactive basis.

• Must be suited for situations that require the ability to handle a high amount of stress, tension, difficult work conditions and pressure.

• Must be suited for situations that require a moderate amount of questioning and probing, and will not accept many things at face value.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Master’s degree and administrative license required

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write and comprehend directions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers or members of the school community. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, students and administrators.
