EDUCATIONAL CERTIFICATION STATEMENT

In 1987 we left our jobs and began Edmond Christian Academy. Ken originally taught for two years in Oklahoma City Public Schools before he took a position as High School Guidance Counselor with the OKC Public School System for five years. He later taught as an Adjunct Instructor at Oklahoma State University, while owning and operating restaurants, having opened 87 locations. Bea had taught in Oklahoma City Public Schools and was a Full Professor at Oklahoma State University, having taught there 18 years.

ECA was first in two leased facilities, one at 1200 N. Roosevelt and the next at 4723 E. 2nd Street, both in Edmond. In 1994 we purchased land at 21477 N. Western and built the first building; additional units were added in 2000, 2003, and 2005.

We offer K-4 through 12th grade, college prep courses. Our primary emphasis is on development of Godly character, with academic excellence being close behind. From the beginning we have utilized Godly people with a gift from God to teach and train children. Some of these have degrees and others do not. All of them love the Lord and seek His guidance to teach and manage their classrooms.

While Bea was a Division Head at OSU, she began to see that a thick portfolio did not necessarily equate to a great professor. She discovered you can not pay them enough or educate them enough to make them a good teacher. God began to direct her to select faculty by the Spirit of God. This system led easily into the process of choosing teachers at ECA. Basically we seek teachers who serve God and are endowed with a gift to teach and nurture children. Some of these have degrees, while others do not. They each do a beautiful job of training up children in the way of the Lord and academics. For 20 years this system of selecting faculty and staff has been efficient.

We operate as a 501c3 under Edmond Christian Center, Inc. We are registered as Edmond Christian Academy with the State of Oklahoma as a “Trade name” under Edmond Christian Center, Inc.
