INT. POLICE CAR – DAY

OFFICER RALPH JENSON (mid 20s) sits at the passenger seat and drinks coffee. To his right, OFFICER EVAN MICHAELS (mid 30s) looks out the driver side window.

EXT. ENTRANCE/EXIT POINT OF PARK – DAY

A narrow, cement paved path goes straight. Grass covers the sides.

A group of TEENAGERS exit diagonally, laughing and talking.

Two ATTRACTIVE FEMALES jog pass them and enters the park. They follow the path.

A MALE BYCYCLIST rides in.

He passes the two females and a lovely COUPLE walking their dogs.

INT. POLICE CAR – DAY

RADIO DISPATCHER (O.S.)

Dispatch to vehicle 0148: Have you

seen him yet?

Jenson picks up the radio and taps Michaels arm.

MICHAELS

(without turning)

No.

JENSON

0148 to dispatch: Not yet.

RADIO DISPATCHER

10-4K. Stay on point. Keep your

eyes open.

JENSON

10-4.

Jenson stares out the passenger side window.

JENSON

Isn’t protocol for people in this

line of work to carry a cell phone

all times.

MICHAEL

His retired. The rules don’t apply to

him.

Jenson turns and faces the back of Michael’s head.

JENSON

We should be looking inside for him

like the others. Help speed up the

search.

MICHAEL

We got orders to stay here. He might

exit and no one will know about it.

Besides they already have people

looking inside.

JENSON

You sound as if we have plenty of time

to waste.

MICHAEL

We don’t. But allowing your nerves to

have a handle on your judgment is

not good either. Gaby is doing a good

job so far.

JENSON

Even though she was his pupil, this

is not textbook procedure...

Michael turns and faces Jenson.

MICHAEL

You’re not making the situation any

better with your constant badgering.

Just cover that side...alright.

Michael turns back around, facing the driver side window.

RADIO DISPATCHER (O.S.)

Dispatch to vehicle 0148: anything

yet.

Michael squints.

JENSON

(into radio)

0148 to dispatch:...

MICHAELS

Tell them we got him.

Michael exits.

EXT. PARK – PATH - DAY

GARY DWAYNE (40s) jogs on the path. He wears sweatpants, a t-shirt, and white sneakers.

The two previous attractive females pass him on the side.

Gary soon passes the couple walking their dogs.

MICHAEL

Gary...

Gary stops. Michael walks towards him.

GARY

Evan...

Both shake hands.

GARY

How’s everything?

MICHAEL

Not good. Do you mind walking with

me?

Michael and Gary walk.

GARY

What’s wrong?

MICHAEL

We got a hostage situation on a

boat that requires your assistance.

GARY

Where’s Gaby?

MICHAEL

She’s over there handling the

problem as best as she can.

GARY

Am I for support?

MICHAEL

More than that.

GARY

Mike, I’m not a newbie. Tell me.

Michael stays silent.

GARY

Mike.

MICHAEL

His got your daughter.

Gary halts. Michael stops a few steps away; he looks back at Gary.

He takes out a small picture from his pant’s pocket and hands it to GARY.

MICHAEL

The hostage taker gave it to us.

An old photo consisting of: Greg (around mid 20’s) holding his cute baby daughter, EMILY.

MICHAEL

I’m telling you this since you’re are

going to find out either way; so, it’s

better that you do so now and get those

feelings out of the way. But we can’t

stop, we gotta move. Your daughter’s

depending on you. So, c’mon.

Gary walks and takes the lead. Michael follows.

GARY

How did this happen?

MICHAEL

According eye witness testimonies,...

EXT. LAKE – DAY (FLASHBACK)

The light blue ocean sparkles.

Many lonely boats are parked alongside the pier.

Their owners are located on top of a

GRASSY HILL

seated on benches. They are crowded by families and friends.

Seated at the far back, GREG and EMILY (late teens) are making out, eyes closed. Emily is sitting on GREG. After a few seconds, they break lip action.

EMILY

You’re a good kisser.

GREG

Thanks. Wanna go somewhere more

private?

EMILY

Don’t push it, I’m letting you this

far.

GREG GULPS.

GREG

Ok.

They return back to making out. Emily opens her eyes.

A BUILT MAN (around late 20’s) walks towards them rapidly. His face is masked by a cap and dark sunglasses.

Emily breaks contact again from Gray.

GARY

What?

A gunshot ROARS! Blood splatters on Emily’s face. She SCREAMS.

She falls back, bringing down with her Gray’s body. She pushes his body off. Blood gushes from Gary’s face.

The built man reaches Emily. He grabs a huge chunk of her hair and drags her through the huge crowd.

He raises a black 9mm in the air and fires one shot.

The nearest crowd looks and then cowers to the ground.

The built man passes quickly, dragging forcefully a SCREAMING Emily.

At the middle point, the built man rips out Emily’s hair. He bends down and grabs Emily by her shirt.

BUILT MAN

Get Up!

He presses the 9MM onto her face and pulls her up. He looks around.

People are cowering on the ground. Some are hugging their children.

A PETITE MOTHER (early 30’s) with blondish hair glances to the side and then back to the built man.

The built man turns around. He points the black 9MM at a SLIGHTLY, BALDING MAN (early 50’s). He fires onto the slightly balding man’s chest and continues moving.

The built man walks down the slope and arrives at the pier. He walks straight for a couple of yards and stops near a dirty boat.

Two tires hang from each side of the white hull. The exterior bulkheads are constructed out of light hard wood. Two windows show on each side of the boat.

He pulls Emily to the boat. Her head hits the coach-roof.

BUILT MAN

Get In!

He shoves Emily in.

INT. RICKETY BOAT

Cramped; a bed is connected to the left side wall. A table is connected on the right side wall.

Emily lies on the floor. The built man hits her in the back of the head with the butt of his gun. He then handcuffs her wrists behind her back.

He heads to the stern and starts the motor.

EXT. RICKETY BOAT

The boat moves forward. Bubbles trail from behind. The built man pulls a dirty peach color curtain to the side, blocking the interior view.

INT. POLICE CAR - DAY (PRESENT DAY)

Sirens sound. Gary sits in the back. Ralph drives. And Michael sits in the passenger seat.

GARY

Is there anything we know about him?

MICHAEL

Caucasian male. Around mid to late

20’s. Well built. He wore sunglasses

and a cap to disguise his face. From

Gaby, his smart and calculating...

GARY

This was pre-planned?

MICHAEL

Yeah...He planned this for some time

now. He knew where to go and who to

go after. But she is not the intended

target.

GARY

How long has he had her?

MICHAEL

An hour and a half; Gaby’s talking

to him.

GARY

What are his demands?

MICHAEL

He wants to talk to you. And that’s

it. He does not go any further

except to make specifically clear

that he wants to talk to you. Only

you.

JENSON

We’ve arrived.

EXT. GRASSY HILL - DAY

The police car PARKS. Gary, Michael and Ralph exit. They walk through a huge crowd of onlookers, and news reporters.

Police and news helicopters fly in the sky.

Most of these onlookers are interviewed by police officers.

Other police officers talk among each other.

A SWAT van is parked near a tree. GABY RODRIGUEZ (mid 30’s) exits the back.

GARY

Gaby!

GABY

Come over.

She walks back to the truck. Gary follows. Michael and Jenson stay in the back.

INT. SWAT VAN

Two other people are present. RYAN KISOK (late 40’s) is dressed in SWAT team attire. NATHAN SHARP (mid 50’s) is dressed in a professional suit.

GABY

Here.

She hands him a telephone.

GABY

You know what to do.

She puts on a pair of headphones. The three other people do the same. She dials the number.

Gray holds the phone onto his ear. The ring tone sounds. The CLICK sound is heard on the other end.

BUILT MAN (V.O)

Mr. Dwayne.

GARY

Speaking.

BUILT MAN (V.O.)

It’s a great pleasure to speak to

you. I was unsure if they were

going to get you here on time. I

was close in taking a drastic

measure to ensure your arrival, but

luckily that can be avoided now.

GARY

Thankfully...So what do you want to

talk to me about.

BUILT MAN (V.O.)

Mr. Dwayne, do you take me as a fool.

That whole thing – me dragging your

daughter through the crowd was for

show.

He looks at Gaby surprised. Gaby looks back.

BUILT MAN (V.O.)

I had to make this situation important,

you can understand that. Besides,

you should be happy with the fact

that I haven’t killed your daughter

yet. But her life isn’t guaranteed

for long as many other people walking

on this great Earth. So, if you want

your daughter to live a bit more you

must go a little bit further. I want

you on this boat. You are a high

commodity. And you will help me in

achieving my goal. In exchange, you’ll

daughter leaves and gets to live. I

think that’s fair. Get back to me five

minutes. If not, I’ll shoot her in

the head and then shoot myself in

the head.

CLICK.

GARY

So, what’s the game plan?

SHARP

This guy’s serious. He shot one guy

who tried to get in his way. So, we

have to take him down. Our only

dilemma is how to eliminate him

without hurting your daughter.

KISOK

The only way is to get close to him

and take him out quickly. And that’s

where you come in.

Gary stares at Kisok.

EXT. LAKE - DAY

A Police speed boat drives straight towards the dirty boat. Occupying this speed boat are a POLICE OFFICER and Gary.

The police speed boat arrives at the stern.

Gary steps on to the rickety boat, watchful of the coach-roof.

Gary halts.

INT. TELEVISION SCREEN - DAY

The dirty boat floats on water.

NEWS REPORTER #1

Gary Dwayne has entered the boat.

It appears that he will try to

negotiate with the hostage taker.

BOOM! The boat explodes.

NEWS REPORTER #1

Oh my God! The boat just exploded.

EXT. LAKE

A JOSH LAMBERT (early 20’s) stands in front of a crowd.

JOSH LAMBERT

It is confirmed; all three are

pronounced dead. If you are just

tuning in Gary Dwayne, his daughter,

Emily Dwayne, and the hostage taker

are dead from a devastating explosion.

A picture of a MAN’S FACE displays. He has messy, wavy hair and his eyes are bright blue.

FEMALE NEWS REPORTER (V.O.)

This is the picture of the hostage

taker. The hostage taker’s name was

Samuel T. Anthony. It’s been

disclosed to us that he had the

explosion planned.

INT. CITY HALL PRESS ROOM

The COMMISSONER stands in front of the podium. Both political and police officials stand in the background.

COMMISSONER

It is believed that when Gary

Dwayne entered the boat, Mr. Anthony

had set off the bomb. It’s really

unclear how he did it so far. We are

assuming most likely through a secret

switch of some sort.

EXT. SUBURBAN HOME

JAMES PATLER (late 20s) talks to a male news reporter.

JAMES PATLER

Sam was a nice guy. Kind to other

people. Kept to himself a lot.

That’s all I can say about him.

Didn’t see this coming. But sadly

this always happens, doesn’t.

INT. CHURCH

A huge crowd of blue uniform officers’ occupy the pews. Among these people are important officials: the mayor, governor, the commissioner, etc.

Two caskets stand in front of the alter.

NEWS REPORTER

Greg Dwayne and daughter, Emily

Dwayne. Hundreds of police

officers have come to pay their

respects for their fallen brother

and daughter. They will be missed.
