Galen Beale
Shaker Poplarware
Galen was taught the fancy craft of Shaker poplarware by Eldress Bertha Lindsay and Eldress Gertrude Sule, while she was working at Canterbury Shaker Village as an herbalist and craft coordinator. Along with Roger and Marjorie Gibbs, Galen worked to master the craft. Together they formed Beale & Gibbs around 1986. Galen has been demonstrating and producing poplarware containers for museums and collectors ever since. She has lectured on poplarware and taught classes at many of the Shaker villages and has spoken for Elderhostel groups, Shaker Seminar groups, and Shaker Studies courses. She co-authored the Berkshire House publication Shaker Baskets and Poplarware.

Mary’s parents were from Galway, Ireland. She started Irish step dancing at the age of 6 while growing up in Boston. Her family regularly attended ceili dances at local church halls, a tradition that goes back to the 8th century in Ireland when social life revolved around music and dance. Mary has been teaching Irish dance in the Upper Valley since 1996. Her students perform at nursing homes, senior centers and local festivals. She sponsors ceili dances with live Irish music two to thee times a year where students perform and the public is invited to learn the dances. She holds a dance camp for children each summer.

Regina Delaney
Irish Harpist, Singer & Dancer
Regina sings in Irish and English in the sean nos style (ornamented and unaccompanied) and also accompanies herself on harp. She has studied Irish harping with Aine Minogue and classical harp with Stephanie Curcio in the U.S. and in Ireland with Janet Harbison and the Belfast Harp Orchestra. Comhaltas Ceoltori awarded Regina a scholarship to study harp in Ireland as part of their Living Traditions Award. She also performs hard and soft shoe step dancing, ceili (group) and set dancing, teaches ceili dancing in local schools, and calls ceili dances. In 1999, Regina was selected to represent New Hampshire at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C. where she performed Irish tunes, ballads, stepdancing, taught ceili dancing and Irish children's crafts, and demonstrated Irish cooking. In a residency program, the children's efforts would be presented like an Irish house party or siamsa (evening of entertainment) including music, dance, stories and recitations.

Mary DesRosiers is an accomplished caller of old and new dances, an engaging teacher, and a veteran folk singer. She has taught the dance styles and singing games of New England to audiences of preschoolers through seniors in town halls, schools, and camps across the country. A versatile artist, Mary enjoys singing for audiences of all ages, specializing in traditional American music. Her debut recording Yonder Come Day was named one of the "notable" recordings for children by the American Library Association. Mary's recent work in researching and recording the songs from Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House books has brought her national recognition.

Kevin Fife
Stone Wall Building
Kevin grew up in the township of Canterbury, NH. He specializes in the traditional skill of dry-laid or dry stack stonewalls, which are made without the use of mortar to hold them together. He has done extensive work in restoring historic field stone walls, as well as building new ones in the traditional style. Kevin is also a skilled craftsmen in splitting and laying up granite foundations, walls, steps, and fireplaces. He has taught dry laid stonewall workshops at the Canterbury Shaker Village, Fells Estate in Newbury, NH and Sanborn Mills in Loudon, NH. Kevin was selected to represent New Hampshire at the 1999 Smithsonian Folklife Festival and the expanded recreation at Celebrate NH Culture festival in the traditional of stone wall building and granite work.

Granite Statesmen of the Barbershop Harmony Society of Nashua
Barbershop Harmony
The Granite Statesmen is the Nashua Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society and was founded in 1955. The full chorus has approximately 80 members and within this are several quartets who can perform or teach independently. The Nashua chapter draws its members largely from southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts and several people have been in the chapter for over 30 years. The Granite Statesmen put on several shows a year including a Spring show held in both Nashua and Manchester and a Christmas Cabaret held in Nashua. The group can perform in different configurations (quartets to full chorus) depending upon purpose of the event. Their fees are flexible and depend largely on the number of chorus members performing. On occasion, they donate a performance for a worthy cause.

Tom Hall
Traditional English, Scottish, and New England Folk Songs, Maritime Songs, and Ballads
Tom has been learning, listening to, collecting, and singing traditional folk songs for nearly 60 years. Tom learned some of his repertoire from his grandfather who sang folk songs and went on to research and sing with many other collectors of traditional songs. Tom now has a large repertoire of traditional songs that covers various stages of American history—labor songs, sea chanties, Irish ballads and more. He has given hundreds of performances in clubs, coffeehouses, museum and concert halls and has helped to organize countless folk music festivals. Tom is currently a member of the board of directors for the Indian Neck Folk Festival. He hosts a weekly singing session at the Press Room pub in Portsmouth and a monthly session for sea shanties and fo’c’s’le ballads.

David Kennard
Working with Sheep Dogs
David trains and works with border collies primarily in raising sheep. His presentations showcase the traditional skills of training border collies and traditional methods of working sheep. Demonstrations are educational and interactive. He believes is it important for people living in urban environments to learn more about the tradition of sheep farming, a significant aspect of New Hampshire’s agricultural heritage. Typically, a full demonstration involves four to six border collies and six to eight sheep. An enclosed area is required for the demonstration and if one is not available, Dave can set up fencing in an open field for an additional fee.
Programs Offered: Demonstrations held outdoors at fairs, festivals, and museum settings. Interested in working with school aged children 6th grade through high school, college students, adults and the elderly. David is often accompanied by his son Colin. They are available statewide in the summer and fall for daytime presentations only.

Alice Ogden
Brown-Ash Basket Maker
Alice has been a basketmaker for more than 20 years. The materials she uses are gathered and harvested from local areas of NH. She uses the traditional methods of stripping off layers of growth rings from Black Ash trees to supply her with basket splints. In 1995, Alice received a regional artist fellowship from the New England Foundation for the Arts. She is a long time member of the League of NH Craftsmen, annually demonstrating at their fair in Sunapee where she won the "Best in Traditional Design Award" in 1991. Alice had her work displayed on the White House Christmas tree as part of the "Year of the American Crafts 1993". She has been featured on the Boston TV show Evening Magazine, and her work has appeared in The Boston Globe, New Hampshire Profiles, and the 1995 Directory of Traditional Crafts in Early American Life magazine.

Gary Sredzienski
Polish & International Accordionist
Gary Sredzienski demonstrates the diversity of the piano accordion with a wide variety of styles encompassing several continents. His solo recordings on his own Bellows Music label have landed him national performances with various cultural organizations. Gary travels weekly throughout the Northeast and beyond performing in concerts, school residencies, festivals, senior centers/nursing homes. He is continually involved in recording projects. In addition to performing for choral and dance groups, Gary performs 1960's surf rock, traditional ethnic, and his accordion compositions with the Portsmouth based group, the "Serfs." He received an Artist Fellowship from the NH State Council on the Arts in 1997 and represented NH at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in 1999. Gary also hosts a 1950's style ethnic radio show weekly at WUNH-FM in Durham.

Two Fiddles
Old Time Barn & Square Dance Fiddling & Calling
Jacqueline and Dudley Laufman, fiddlers and callers, play jigs and reels at old time barn and square dances. All ages and abilities participate. No experience is needed. They perform at schools (curriculum oriented), town halls, festivals, fairs, weddings and elderhostels. They were selected to represent New Hampshire at the 1999 Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, DC, and have toured widely in the U.S. and Canada. Two Fiddles has a CD, several cassettes, and have published several books of poetry, dances and music. Dudley, who has been at this work for over 50 years, and Jacqueline are self-taught, having learned by way of the oral tradition. They are passing this on to their students and apprentices. Dudley Laufman is a 2001 recipient of the New Hampshire Folk Heritage Governors' Arts Award.

Hagob Jack Zarzatian
Anatolian, Near & Middle Eastern Music
Jack Zarzatian sings and plays the guitar as well as the middle eastern oud. Jack was born into a Greek and Armenian family. His parents were both classically trained violinists and his father performed in a Greek and Armenian band in Philadelphia where he grew up. Over the years, Jack has studied with Turkish and Armenian master musicians and has been playing Near and Mid-Eastern music for over 40 years. He can offer a solo performance or make arrangements for Greek and Armenian musicians (mostly from the Boston area) to join him. He performs locally for community events and weddings but has also performed at large events around the country, including the Lowell Folk Festival (1996 & 2002), the Smithsonian Folklife Festival (1994), and at the New York Metropolitan Museum opening for the King Tutankhamun exhibit.
Programs Offered: Performances, demonstrations, and workshops at schools and community locations such as libraries, historic societies, fairs, festivals, and museums. Interested in working with school aged children 6th grade through high school, college students, adults and the elderly. Can work statewide and is available year-round primarily on weekends, day or evening.
