ENDURES." 2. The Power of the Scripture is that through the providence of God it will ENDURE FOREVER and therefore we

can depend upon it always. B. The Comfort of Scripture 1. Greek word for "COMFORT" here is "PARAKLESIS" meaning "CONSULATION AND EXHORTATION."

2. The Power of the Scripture is that it: a. Consoles us when comfort is needed. b. Exhorts us when action/teaching is needed.

ILLUSTRATION: III. THE PROMISE OF SCRIPTURE - VS. 4c

"MIGHT HAVE HOPE" NOTE: The Greek word for "HOPE" here is "ELIS" meaning "CONFIDENT EXPECTATION."

LESSON AND APPLICATION: 1) God loves us so much that He has given us the Scriptures so that we can learn about Him and His Great Works. 2) In order to learn about Him and His Great Works, WE MUST BE IN THE SCRIPTURES: DAILY - On a regular basis

DILIGENTLY - With earnest/serious study DEEPLY- Digging into the depths of scripture as we grow 3) Dr. J. Vernon McGee said years ago, "THE GREATEST SIN OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST IS IGNORANCE OF THE WORD OF GOD. MANY TIMES I WILL HEAR A CHURCH OFFICER SAY 'I DON'T KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE BIBLE, BUT MY OPINION IS...." THEN HE GIVES HIS OPINION, WHICH ACTUALLY CONTRADICTS THE WORD OF GOD." 4) God has given the world, the church, the Christian, and YOU the scriptures for learn His truths.
