Vision Therapy Can be Helpful!

The Child:

1. Exhibits poor motor coordination

2. Uncoordinated frequent tripping, stumbling, bumping into things, having trouble

skipping and jumping

3. Communicates infrequently with gestures or through physical “acting”

4. Does not enjoy books or pictures, perhaps does not enjoy video games

5. Demonstrates restlessness, short attention span, perseveration

6. Plays games poorly: cannot imitate children’s games

7. Exhibits poor handwriting, artwork, drawing

8. Exhibits reversals of the letters b.d.p.q.u.n when writing (beyond age 7)

9. Inverts numbers or reverse numbers

10. Requires auditory cues

11. Gives correct answers when teacher reads test but cannot put answer on paper

12. Fails to understand what is read

13. Exhibits poor performance on group achievement tests

14. Appears brighter than test scores indicate

15. Has poor perception of time and space

Behaviour Examples:

1. Holding reading material very close to face

2. Rapidly tires when reading

3. Poor attention span

4. Moving head back and forth while reading

5. Rereading or skipping lines while reading

6. Losing place while copying from the board

7. Must use a marker to keep place

8. Complaining of double vision

9. Covering one eye during near work

10. Transient blur at near or distance

11. Headaches

12. Burning/itchy eyes
