SAMPLE AREA CONTEST SCRIPT



SUGGESTED CLUB/AREA/DIVISION CONTEST SCRIPT –

NOTE: The Contest Chair, Toastmaster and Chief Judge will determine when the contests will begin. The contest should NOT begin unless the Toastmaster has the names of all the contestants for both contests and speech titles from all the contestants. Also, double check with the Chief Judge that all contestants have turned in their eligibility form.

Club Contest Chair, Area & Division Directors – make sure ALL judges have been briefed by the Chief Judge and judges have turned in their Judges Certification of Eligibility. You should have a written list of who all the functionaries and contestants are.

Sergeant-at-Arms …………… Calls contest to attention, leads pledge (optional), and introduces Club President

Club President …. Welcomes guests, acknowledges dignitaries, and introduces Contest Toastmaster

Toastmaster ……...……… Warms up the audience (2-4 minutes) and informs the audience of the following: The rules have been reviewed with the contestants and all of the contest functionaries have been briefed, please turn off all cells phones, the taking of photographs during the table topics and speeches is not permitted and if you need to leave the room only do so during the one minute of silence. Toastmaster states Chief Judge everyone has been briefed – Chief Judge stands and asks Toastmasters to select one of three envelopes containing the Table Topic question and confirms that the contest can begin.

Toastmaster ………… Announces we will now conduct the Table Topics Contest. Give speaking

order of the contestants. In a moment, I will ask the Sergeant At Arms to take all but the first

contestant out of the room to a location where they cannot hear the Table Topic Question.

After the first contestant has finished, we will bring in the next contestant and repeat this process for

all contestants.

Sergeant At Arms, will you please take all but the first contestant out of the room.

Wait for the Sergeant-at-Arms to take the contestants out of the room. Do not proceed until you receive confirmation that all contests are out of the room.

While the contestants are leaving the room the Toastmaster opens the Table Topic question and reads the question to himself.

Toastmaster……….Introduce contestant by stating twice the contestant’s name and the Table Topic question. (No other remarks are made.) This procedure is repeated for all contestants.

Toastmaster……Conducts contestant interviews and presents each contestant with their Certificate of Participation.

Toastmaster……Once all contestants have been interviewed Toastmaster calls for 10 minute BREAK

Sergeant-at-Arms …………… Gives 2 minute warning – SAA then calls contest to order after the 2 minutes, introduce Contest Toastmaster.

Toastmaster ………… informs the audience of the following: The rules have been reviewed with the contestants and all of the contest functionaries have been briefed, please turn off all cells phones, the taking of photographs during the speeches is not permitted and if you need to leave the room only do so during the one minute of silence. Contest Toastmaster states Chief Judge the audience has been briefed we will now begin the contest – Chief Judge stands and confirms that the contest can begin.

Announces we will now conduct the International Speech Contest Gives speaking order of the contestants and introduces each contestant by “name, title of speech … title of speech, name.” (No other remarks are made.) This procedure is repeated for all contestants.

Club President/Area Director/Division Director ………. Presents certificates of appreciation to the Contest Chair, Toastmaster and Chief Judge. Club President/Area Director/Division Director then asks all other contest functionaries to stand for applause and ask for any other announcements

Club President/Area Director/Division Director ………………After announcements have been made then announce results of each contest (3rd Place, 2nd Place & 1st Place). THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY OTHER ANNOUNCEMENTS AFTER THE WINNERS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED
