Shakespearean Insult Activity
Shakespearean Insult Activity
Shakespeare had a fantastic ability to include very humorous insults in his plays. You will be exploring his use of these during the following assignment.
Get into groups of no more than 3 people. Create a scripted, partially improvised scene in which the actors are having an argument. Everyone must participate in the argument. This is a verbal argument and the focus should not be on the physical aspects of the scene.
• You will need to hand Ms. Marcum a typed copy of the scripted portions with notes on it to indicate where you will be improvising your scene.
• You need a title for your scene as well as a short description of the action that will be happening during your scene.
• You will need to act this out for the class. Costumes and props will be given bonus marks based on how elaborate you are willing to get.
• Each scene should be no longer than 10 minutes and no shorter than 5 minutes. I will be timing these. Remember you need time to set up the argument!!!!
• Actors should have their lines memorized in order to make the improvisation easier for the group. (You may have note cards)
• The group will also need to study up on the insults that Shakespeare used and what the actually translate into. It is important for your insults to make sense!!!!
Marks will be given for:
1. Written script with minimum 2 paragraph explanation of your scene /20
2. Scene /30
a. actors are vocally confident
b. actors are confident in the script
c. actors are confident and clear in their improvisation
