Hello Concordia UCC, For those of you that do not know yet, I am Greg Seaman. I am really enjoying being a part of your congregation. I will be with Concordia for the foreseeable future. I am married and a father of 4. I currently work at Nascote in Nashville, Illinois. I hope to be there about 10 more years, then I plan to retire from the mainstream working world and continue with pastoral care. I am enrolled in the Life program at Eden Seminary and will be done with my program studies in February of 2021. My wife has been with me a few times. Her name is Renee. She is the Human Resources Director of The Boys and Girls Club of Greater St. Louis. We have been married 10 years this September and have one child together. My oldest son, Ethan, is 23 and currently is the Suisse Chef at Wasabi in Fairview Heights. My next son, Aaron, is 21 and will graduate from SIUC with his bachelor's degree in forestry this spring. You have met my daughter Natalie. She is 15 and is a sophomore at West. She loves art and music. She is very talented at both. You also met my youngest, Ryan. He is in 4th grade at Wingate. He is a devoted and talented baseball player and just has an incredible joy for life. He also plays basketball, soccer and golf. I hope to get to know everyone at Concordia better and look forward to spending more time with everyone. If you have any questions for me, please do not hesitate to ask me as I try to be an open book. Peace and Blessings, Greg Seaman
Thanks to those mowing and weed whacking the grounds during this very hot and rainy summer. From left to right: Bill Meckfessel, Rick Weygandt, Steve Keim & Bill Wirth. Not pictured are Mike Quirk & Max Hansen.
Thank you to Randy & Natalie Huck for hosting pool parties for the church in July & August. What a great way to stay cool this hot summer!
USHERS/GREETERS NEEDED There is a sign-up list on the welcome table outside the sanctuary. We are asking that those who volunteer to serve as ushers to please try and get here about 45 minutes early to place the alter flowers in the vases and to serve as greeters handing out bulletins and assisting people in finding a seat as the sanctuary fills up. Also, when collecting the offering we would appreciate it if you could get a head count of our attendance. Please sign-up as you are able.
COFFEE HOUR HOST/HOSTESS NEEDED We need volunteers to serve as host/hostess during our Sunday morning Coffee Hour. The donuts and coffee are provided by the church, but we need you to help serve. If you are interested, please sign the list on the welcome table outside the sanctuary.
COUNCIL NEWS We are sitting at 49% of our fundraising goal for the Wall of Money. This fundraiser will end September 30, 2019. Please help us reach our goal. Some larger numbered envelopes have been broken down into smaller numbers. Grab an envelope off the wall at church or inquire with myself or Natalie Huck about what numbers are still available. We have a lot of exciting events and opportunities for fellowship for all ages and backgrounds coming up this fall: Camping at Church, Fifth Quarter, Wurstmarkt, Hayride/Bonfire. Please help support the mission of the church by getting involved and inviting your friends and family--members and nonmembers!
QUILTING GROUP We are working hard on some beautiful quilts. Raffle tickets are on sale for the Quilt Raffle at the Wurstmarkt. If anyone is interested in quilting, please join us on Monday evenings from 6-8pm and Tuesday mornings from 9-11:30am at the church. All are welcome!
CHOIR Practice will begin on Wednesday, September 11 at 7:00 pm. All are welcome!!!!
SEARCH COMMITTEE We have been busy reviewing profiles and have conducted a couple of interviews. We appreciate your patience and faith as we continue on this great adventure - KEEP PRAYING!!!
WORSHIP COMMITTEE The worship committee is quietly & actively working. We met in June and will have another meeting in November. Monitoring the pews will be Jan Peak-September, Jean Meckfessel-October and Marilyn VielweberNovember. Marilyn will also decorate the Cornucopia for Thanksgiving. We are always in need of two ushers every Sunday. Please sign up at the Welcome Table in the Sunday School Hall. If for some reason you cannot user on the designated Sunday, please call Jean Meckfessel-co-chair or Evelyn Fritz-co-chair. Thank you all so much for ushering.
WURSTMARKT Continue making items to sell at the craft table. We have a nice variety of items including crocheted items, quilted items, board games, bird houses, plants and food items. So, anything you have would be greatly appreciated. Workers signup sheets are on the Welcome Table. Be sure to check it out as the "really" good jobs get taken fast.
BIBLE STUDY Sunday evening at 5:00 pm. For ages 14 years to 100 years. Come join the fun! Theme is Route 66 Bible Study. We will be planning field trips to Route 66 points of interest.
WOMEN'S GUILD HAPPENINGS On Sunday, November 17th we are planning on attending Aspire, a women's event which is an evening full of laughter, learning, stories & music. The show begins at 5:00 P.M. Tickets are $20 a person for groups of 10 or more. There will be a sign-up sheet on the Welcome Table for those wanting to attend. For more information visit their website: .
BOOK CLUB The Book Club meets the 3rd Sunday of the month. All are welcome to join!
SUNDAY SCHOOL SCOOP We will be implementing a new schedule for Sunday School in September. Youth will be present in church until the children's sermon. At the end of the children's sermon, we will exit the sanctuary to have class in the educational building.
"FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHT 5TH QUARTER" "Friday Night Lights" is not only the title of a movie or a television show. It is also a phrase referring to what happens in many American towns during high school football season. This is true for Belleville and towns, like Millstadt, that feed into Belleville West. Concordia is in a unique position because we are so close to Belleville West! That's why we are partnering with their chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to sponsor 5th Quarter. 5th Quarter can be anything that we want it to be, but the main focus will be on Food, Fun, and Fellowship.
5th Quarters will be held directly following Belleville West home football games. Those are: ? Friday, September 13th ? Friday, September 27th ? Friday, October 4th ? Friday, October 18th
Anyone from Concordia can help and not everyone needs to actually be at the event.
FAMILY CAMPING September 28th we will be having a camping at church day/night. Campers may start setting up at 9:00 am that day. No hookups will be available. There will also be space for camper & tent camping. No fires on the blacktop. We plan to use fire pits for roasting hot dogs and marshmallows. Email Natalie (secretary.concordia@) or leave a message at the church to make your reservations. Lots of fun & fellowship!
