The series generally follows the SBL Handbook of Style, which may be consulted online:

The following instructions summ up the main points

MAIN TEXT

Use subtitles where appropriate, but avoid numerations such as 1.3.2.

Subtitles should be printed in italics.

Do not indent the first paragraph of a chapter or a new section. Indent, however, all paragraphs that the first paragraph.

FOOTNOTES

Use your processor´s automatic footnote feature.

Each new chapter should begin with footnote 1.

Footnotes should be placed after a comma or period, like this.1

PUNCTUATION

Only one space after punctuation.

QUOTATION MARKS

Place quatations marks outside periods and commas, like “this.”

BLOCK QUOTATIONS

In case of five or more lines

Do not use quotation marks

Set quotation off from main text

Use block quotations only when they add substantially to your argument.

INCLUSIVE NUMBERS

See SBL Handbook 4.2.3.

Indicate which font you used.

FOOTNOTES

Cite author and year only, followed by a specific page number, like this: Momigliano 1975, 45.

Modern scholarly literature:

Do not follow the abbreviations in the SBL Handbook of Style, but instead follow the abbreviations of l´Année Philologique:

Abbreviations of journals not included in the Année Philologique: either write in full or provide a separate list which details the abbreviations you used.

Abbreviations should be written in italics.

Ancient sources

Classical authors: The Oxford Classical Dictionary (SBL Handbook is inconsistent and incomplete)

Concerning quotations and illustrations, see SBL Handbook of Style 3.1.4. It is the responsibility of the author to obtain permission for quotations and illustrations.

SUBMISSION

Always submit an electronic and a paper version.

PROOFREADING

After the text has been set, one set of proofs will be sent to the author, allowing him or her to make corrections and complete the index.
