Financial Aid Meeting

A financial aid meeting will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at

6 p.m. in the high school library. All seniors (and senior parents) who plan to apply for financial assistance are encouraged to attend.

FAFSA

A representative from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority will be at the high school on Thursday, February 2, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. to assist seniors with the completion of the FAFSA. More information will be provided at the financial aid meeting on January 19. Colleges across the state recommend that seniors have filed the FAFSA as early as possible in February.

College Goal Sunday

College Goal Sunday is a statewide charitable program that provides free information and assistance to Kentucky families applying for college financial aid. College Goal Sunday mobilizes financial aid professionals from Kentucky colleges and universities to help college-bound students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form is required for any student seeking federal financial aid—including grants and loans—for all colleges and universities in the nation. College Goal Sunday will take place at 2 p.m., Sunday, January 29, 2012 on the campus of Western Kentucky University…166 Mass Media and Technology Hall, 1906 College Heights Blvd., Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Bowling Green Technical College

BGTC will host their Spring Open House on Thursday, March 1, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. on their main campus in Bowling Green. This is an excellent opportunity for prospective students to gather the information they need, apply for admissions, apply for financial aid, and tour the program areas. Lindsey Wilson College

Scholars Day is scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2012. This is also a sneak peek invitation for potential Begley Scholars. The Begley Scholarship is a full-tuition, room and board award given to at least three students each year. The Begley Scholarship recognizes academic ability, leadership potential, citizenship and personal character. To compete for the Begley Scholarship, you will interview during Scholars Day. To reserve your place in the Scholars Day events and to be considered for the Begley Scholarship, please submit the following before February 10, 2012:

• An application for admission

• An official high school transcript

• Three letters of recommendation (including at least one from a high school teacher)

• A one or two-page typed essay on the following topic: “If you were to develop a Mt. Rushmore representing the time span of the 20th-21st centuries, whose face would you select first and why?”

To be eligible for the Begley Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and a composite ACT score of 24 or above. For more information, please call 800-264-0138 or email the admissions office at admissions@lindsey.edu.

Kentucky State University

Sponsored by the Kentucky State University College of Agriculture, Food Science and Sustainable Systems through funding provided by the USDA, the Creating Opportunities Leadership, Transformation and Scholarship (COLTS) programs are offered to youth, ages 10-18, with the aim of contributing to the production of the next generation of scientists, entrepreneurs, health professionals, and leaders who will work to solve worldwide problems and make the future brighter for all.. The Summer Program is for students in grades 6-12. The program is a residential, scholarship based program (no cost to the students). COLTS applications are available at .

Allen County Democrat Women’s Club Scholarship $500

Applicant requirements include:

• A parent or guardian registered as a democrat, or applicant intends to register and vote as a democrat in his/her first eligible election. If not a registered democrat, or if not of age, must demonstrate intention of doing so by submitting a statement that the applicant intends to do. The statement is to be attached to the application;

• Maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher;

• Most recent high school transcript attached to the applications;

• Leadership ability demonstrated through active participation in school clubs and extracurricular activities;

• Active involvement in community service;

• Has worked or intends to work on behalf of democratic nominees in the general election (i.e. working on behalf of democratic nominees by registering voters, distributing literature, driving car for voters, telephoning for democratic nominees, etc.);

• Plans to enroll in an accredited four-year college or university by fall of the application year;

• Two character references, one from a teacher and one from a community leader (no relatives), and attached to the application;

• Compose a typed essay (one page, double-spaced and typed) on why applicant supports the democratic party, to be submitted with application;

• Prepare and deliver a 5 minute presentation at the April Allen County Democrat Women’s Club meeting. Presentation must include the following: (a) why applicant is a democrat; (b) applicant’s aims and goals; and (c) what the DWC scholarship means to the applicant.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program

Applications are now open for the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program. Visit the website for program details and the online application at . The application deadline is February 29, 2012.

Bluegrass Cellular Scholarship

Bluegrass Cellular is accepting applications for a $1,500 college scholarship. Entries must be postmarked by Monday, March 26, 2012. A total of 18 scholarships valued at $1,500 each will be awarded to graduating seniors. Applications are available online at or in the guidance office.

Kentucky Delta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon

Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity is offering a $1,000 Balanced Man Scholarship to an outstanding freshman male entering Western Kentucky University in the fall of 2012. The student should embody the principles of the Balanced Man, someone who is academically minded and excels in other activities. Applications are available in the guidance and must be returned by Tuesday, May 1, 2012 to:
