[pic] CPR, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen Training Procedure

Policy:

All staff are required to have annual Blood Borne Pathogen training before working with children. Staff with regular child contact must be certified in CPR and First Aid within three months and renewed according to the expiration date. Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers require all program directors and at least one caregiver on duty maintain current CPR/First Aid training.

Procedure:

All program directors, all caregivers, and all unsupervised volunteers including subs in programs serving preschool age children and younger shall have current first aid and pediatric and adult CPR certification. All staff are required to have up to date (annually) Blood Borne Pathogen training before working with children.

Infant, Child and Adult CPR and First Aid certification must be kept current. Regular substitutes can become certified with supervisor approval.

• NMCAA will provide funds for registration costs of CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen certification training and renewals.

• Staff will identify the CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen certifying organization(s) in their community to arrange for Certification.

o Staff should attempt to do certification as a team on site and have NMCAA billed including site name and attendees.

o Staff should attempt to attend training during work hours as long as it does not conflict with “child time.”

o Staff can pay for their registration and be reimbursed by attaching a receipt to their expense sheet.

o Staff will be reimbursed mileage if training is not at their work site.

o Carpooling is encouraged and may be required.

o Part time, non-exempt staff will be reimbursed time (if not part of their normal work hours) for attending CPR/Blood Borne Pathogen/First Aid certification or re-certification by claiming hours after attending the class.

o Non-exempt staff will adjust their hours if the training is not part of their normal work hours. Must have supervisor approval.

o Preschool staff completing CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen certification during the summer need Supervisor approval and will claim hours after completing the class.

• Copies of CPR/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen certification cards must be placed in the center file, sent to your supervisor and program support staff.

• Collaborative centers are responsible for covering their expense of CPR/Blood Borne Pathogen/First Aid certification.
