Registration Now Open for the ANSI Annual Conference and World Standards Week Events (August 12, 2005)

Registration is now open for the ANSI Annual Conference – "From A to Veeck: Standardization and the Law" – and the many other events scheduled during the 2005 World Standards Week celebration in Washington, DC, this October. A 10% discount on selected events will be applied to all registrations received by September 9, 2005 (5:00 pm Eastern). All advance registrations must be received by September 23, 2005 (5:00 pm Eastern).

ANSI Announces Recipients of the 2005 Leadership and Service Awards (August 15, 2005)

The American National Standards Institute announced today the recipients of its 2005 Leadership and Service Awards. The five standards leadership medals, and President's, Chairman's, and Meritorious Service Awards will be presented during an October 5 ceremony held in conjunction with the World Standards Week celebration.

Exploring Technology Standards Setting under the Growing Influence of Europe and Asia

Seminar offered during World Standards Week (August 15, 2005)

A seminar exploring the increasing influence of European and Asian interests on information and communication technology standard-setting will take place in Washington, DC, on October 5, in conjunction with the ANSI-hosted World Standards Week 2005 events. Open to the public, the event is sponsored by Kavi Corporation, Gesmer Updegrove LLP, Virtual, Inc. and Jennings Strouss Salmon.

Standards Play Role in Landmark U.S. Energy Bill (August 2, 2005)

After several years of development and dispute, the complex and controversial Energy Policy Act of 2005, or more simply known as the U.S. Energy Bill, was passed on July 28 in the House of Representatives. This first comprehensive energy bill in thirteen years includes several elements in which standards play a significant role.

Machine Readable Passports to be Standard Worldwide by 2010 (August 10, 2005)

ICAO symposium offered to support implementation

The format for machine readable passports (MRP) specified by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) became the worldwide standard on July 11, 2005, and will be implemented by the 188 contracting nations of the ICAO by April 2010. The United States is one of more than 110 nations already issuing passports that meet the new standard, and also leads the way in use of the biometrically-enabled version, or e-passport.
