GREENSHOOTS PRE-SCHOOL - RISK ASSESSMENT: Covid-19 Risk assessment – Autumn Term –September 2020DATE: 18.08.20 COMPLETED BY: Natalie Landricombe and Lisa BickfordNO.HAZARD/RISKEXISTING CONTROLS IN PLACERESIDUAL RISKS L RFURTHER ACTION NEEDED TO REDUCE RISKREDUCED RISKS L RToo many parents entering the setting – Risk of 2 meter rule distance not being followed due to lack of space. All parents come in to the setting to bring their children in. 25Pre-school and WAC *Families to be issued with staggered times to drop off/collect if needed. Social distancing to be adhered to at all times. This will work in line with the school drop off and pick up times. *Children will be greeted by the members of staff at the gate and taken to Greenshoots. *Parents/carers are not to enter the site unless special arrangements have been made. * Parents/carers should contact the setting to arrange a suitable time for a voice/video call. *Where possible there should only be one parent dropping off and collecting their child from the school gate*Any parent who cannot follow the social distance policy will be asked to leave immediately. * Markers will be displayed outside the gate (school are implementing) *Our gate times will be 8.45, 11.45, 12.15, 2.45 and 3.15. Children will be collected and taken to the gate when parents are waiting outside the main gate. There will potentially be school children on the playground in the middle of the day but we will have 2 members of staff to escort children down and up to the gate and do this as quickly as possible. The head teacher is aware of our gate times and the teachers/ dinners ladies will be made aware of our times also. 9Risk reduced but will be monitored regularly Too many children in the setting at a time causing a risk of too much contact between children and staff The setting can have up to 26 children in 1 session on a normal day 25* As per guidance children no longer need to be in bubbles. Children will attend the sessions they require in our free flow system. This will enable children to move freely around the environment and gives them a lot of space. Number of children in each session will start with no more than 16 and we will monitor the intake as and when it arrives on how best to monitor numbers. If a Local lockdown is announced children may need to go back into Bubbles- We will follow guidance. 9Risk reduced but will be monitored regularlyChildren/staff with medical conditionsStaff have supervisions when medical issues are discussed and monitored. Children have medicine forms for inhalers/medicines. If have any conditions, inhalers/medicines are stored appropriately and given with permission and form signed by parent.Pre-school and WAC *Children with asthma/, medical conditions will have pumps/medication if needed. *If a child/adult has a clinically vulnerable condition we will work closely with professionals from the LA to make as safe as possible for individuals.*For any medical condition a staff member or child has we will use websites to research and discuss with individuals of the risks and how we will support them to reduce the risk as much as possible. *Staff members with Asthma need to work in the safest conditions agreed by the employee and employer. Anyone with asthma will adhere to social distancing and work alongside colleagues on how best to do this. *Asthmatic adults will not be in enclosed spaces such as the bathroom area with children. They will aim to be in the outdoor environment whilst working with the children as much as possible where the risk is reduced. *They should aim to promote activities with the children which will promote 2 meter distancing. *They will work in the smallest/reduced mixing groups to avoid overcrowding and close contact with too many children/adults. Hours/shifts may change to support this. *Other staff members should support children coming into the setting who may be upset and will require closer contact. *Asthmatics should continue to take their prescribed preventative inhaler and carry their reliever inhaler at all times as advised by asthma UK. *Regular meetings about medical conditions will take place and if a member of staff is concerned with their working conditions they should inform their line manager immediately. 9Risk reduced but will be monitored regularlyOvercrowding in small areas ie. Office, children bathroomChildren wash hands one at a time with supervision, toilets are used freelyOffice – Staff lunch, office work – Can become over crowded 25Pre-school and WAC *Only 2 members of staff in the office at any one time over the staff lunch time period. (Office mostly used by 1 person during the day). Anyone needing to go to the office will allow other people to leave the office first if more than 2. *Staff lunches will be worked around manager and administrators office time. *Where possible children will use bathroom one at a time and supervised by an adult. Adults will ensure hand washing is efficient for children in an uncrowded bathroom.9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularlyIntimate care for children i.e. first Aid, comfort. Children with SEND Intimate care is given- First aid, comfort, help with toileting25Pre-school and WAC *Staff will deliver first aid when needed giving reassurance and comfort when needed. *Staff will help children if they have a toilet accident- Child will be encouraged to do as much as possible themselves however staff will help where needed. *Staff may decide to wear PPE in such close contact scenarios- Face mask/shield, apron, gloves *Emergency first aid will still be given if needed. A mouth guard can be worn if CPR is needed for a child or adult. Ambulance will be called if necessary and preparations will be made for their quick entrance to the setting. *SEND children will continue to get the extra support that they need with 1-1 requests being made to LA if needed. 1-1 will be discussed with parents and how best this will be delivered. Contact with parents about their child’s needs will be made through phone call, email or video call. *Any EHCP process will be discussed with other professionals involved and a plan will be made to support the process. 9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularlyChild/adult unwell with Covid-19 symptoms Children are sent home if they have a temperature and are feeling unwell Staff will go home if unwell.25Pre-school and WAC*Parents will be asked in the mornings if they are worried about any symptoms their child has. Any children who have symptoms of Covid-19 will not be able to enter the setting. *Temperature checks may be taken throughout the day with a non-contact thermometer so staff can keep a safe distance.* If a staff member is displaying symptoms whilst at work they will be sent home immediately. They should access a test immediately. Greenshoots will support the staff member to access a test if needed. *If children display symptoms whilst in the setting they will be isolated, in the cloakroom/reception area by the front door, from the other children with a staff member. Parents will be contacted immediately and expected to collect their child within 30 minutes as signed on parent declaration.*The isolation area will be deep cleaned daily and after use immediately* We will have an isolation box which can be quickly accessed if a child needs to isolate. The contents will include PPE for staff. *We will notify all relevant agencies if we suspect a case of Covid-19 and follow the guidance given. We will follow the PHE flowchart. * The flowchart will be displayed around the setting for all staff to refer to. *Anyone displaying symptoms will be advised to get a test. Guidance on this procedure is outlined in our policy. Greenshoots will support parents to access a test. *Children do not need to be sent home if another child has displayed symptoms. We will wait for test results from the * A symptomatic child’s test and advice from there. We will follow the flow chart and contact PHE if required *Children should not attend the setting if anyone in their household is displaying symptoms. This will be outlined clearly to parents. * We will work with test and trace where necessary. *All staff are first aid trained 9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularlyItems from home being brought in to the settingToys can be brought in from home, bikes and buggies can be stored, Children all bring a bag to pre-school25Pre-school and WAC *The setting will NOT store buggies, bikes or any other items from home. *Children should not bring comfort toys in from home at this time. *Each child should bring a bag and will remain on their peg until needed to return home for new clothes etc. *Children will bring a packed lunch in a plastic box so it can be cleaned in the setting and before it goes home. *Children will bring a bottle that will stay in the setting for washing and re-filled for next sessions. Drinks bottles will be stored up high so there is no risk of children drinking out of other bottles. *Staff should ensure that all items are uniform are washed ready for the next shift. *Staff should bring minimal items into the pre-school9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularlyResources suitable for children to have access to Children can have access to all resources and sensory play 25Pre-school and WAC *Children will have access to a range of resources which will be manageable to clean at the end of the session*We will not at this time offer a wide range of sensory activities however if we do it will be a single use purpose for an individual child only*Any such items will be disposed of and toys will be cleaned at the end of each session*All resources used will be monitored and will be cleaned after each use *We will purchase extra containers for cleaning resources. * Toys will be rotated and left for 72 hours if it is unable to be cleaned effectively.*Toys/resources are cleaned with Milton following the correct procedures when using this. *Soft furnishing are stored away for now. 9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularlyCleaning We have regular cleaning measures at Greenshoots25Pre-school and WAC *Professional clean completed before reopening in June. – Infection control and Bio hazard cleaning. LA confirmed professional clean is safe to open. *Bins will be emptied regularly when needed to avoid over flowing and all bins will have a lid on. Bins with foot pedal purchased. *Cleaner will do regular cleaning every morning. The cleaner will have finished her job before children come in to the setting. *Staff will remain on at the end of the day to deep clean the areas that have been used and toys that have been used cleaned* Anything that needs to be washed will be on a hot wash at the end of each day.*The setting has anti-bac wipes/sprays, floor cleaner and Milton solution for cleaning *Door handles, sinks, toilets, bin lids, table tops and chairs will be regularly cleaned throughout the day*Staff will wear apron and gloves when cleaning and dispose of those when finished.*Allocated office staff- Manager /administrator will be responsible for cleaning the office after their shift*Cleaning check list will be displayed around the setting to ensure effective cleaning is recorded. *Toilet area will be regularly cleaned throughout the day. A cleaning list will be in the bathroom also. 9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularly2 meter distance ruleStaff support each other where needed and children play together in big groups25Pre-school and WAC *Staff will remain 2 meters apart from each other as much as possible. If staff needs to have close contact with a child PPE may be worn. . *Children’s lunch time/work time will be in small groups and distanced at the table as much as possible.*Small round carpet tiles will be used for adult led activities/story time to help spacing*Activities will be set up where children can be more spread out.*Markers will be placed outside of the gate for parent social distancing. *Staff with medical conditions will adhere to social distancing as much as possible and if concerned about this should raise it with their line manger immediately.9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularlyEquipment being used by different members of staff/childrenLaptops, I-pads, telephone, walkie talkie, office equipment 25Pre-school and WAC*Laptop will be used by different people and each person will clean after each use. *Administrator- Allocated separate laptop to that of the managers.*Wipes/cleaning resources will be available in the office so any equipment/phone/laptop used will be cleaned after each use. * Cleaning check list displayed in the office. *If a computer needs repair work or assistance from the ICT person then it will be wiped and cleaned before use and after that person has finished. *ICT equipment such as computers and I-pads will be cleaned between each use of different children. 9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularlyHand washing and respiratory hygiene facilitiesTooth brushing facilitiesChildren/staff have open access to hand washing facilitiesChildren brush their teeth once a day 25Pre-school and WAC *Staff and children will wash hands on arrival in the setting and regularly throughout the day after each session and as activities change. Hand washing will be supervised and contained by going one at a time. Hand sanitiser dispensers will be located around the pre-school for the adults from cool water. *Staff will regularly check stock in bathroom area*Education on hand washing activities will be implemented* Each sink will be cleaned after each use* Adults to wear gloves to help turn tap on/off and then gloves disposed of when finished. *Plenty of hand soap will be available to both children and adults including the staff toilet*Staff will model good hand washing with the children and sing a hand washing song.* There will be plenty of tissues available around the setting and education around using tissues and how to dispose of in the bin. *Bins will be provided with lids and foot pedal bins have been ordered. *3x hand washing stations purchased for efficient hand washing around the setting. These can be moved around the setting for where needed such as at lunch time etc. *Toothbrushing: We will re-introduce our tooth brushing scheme working alongside the Government guidance for this. Staff will need to read this before we re-start and adhere to the guidance given. We will review this in the first week and adapt/change if required. We feel this is an important part of our daily routine to re-introduce. 9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularlyVentilation/spaceWe have the main room, conservatory and outdoor area. Windows are open throughout the day to provide appropriate ventilation25Pre-School and WAC*Windows and conservatory doors will be open to create as much ventilation as possible. At least 2 windows open at all times. *Outdoor play will be free flow and we will plan outdoor activities as much as possible. *We will only be using the decking for outside play- No playground at present for pre-school. 9Risk reduce and will be monitored regularly Fire exit/routine We have a fire evacuation plan that we follow in practice and if unexpected. In fire drills we congregate on a playground with school children and walk alongside them when evacuating.25Pre-school and WAC In accordance with school policy the fire evacuation procedure to remain the same. 9Risk reduce and will be monitored regularly Visitors/students We have 2 students who attend weekly and visitors who enter the setting25Pre-school and WAC *At this time we will only consider 1 student who has been completing placement with us. We are working with the college and guidance on this.*Anyone who arrives at the gate will be greeted at the gate by a member of staff keeping a safe distance from them. This may include shopping, deliveries, parents collecting their child *Any visitor who needs to come from the school will make arrangements with us in the first instance to arrange a suitable time. For example any maintenance work that needs to be completed. Arrangements will be made through walkie talkie or phone*Bank staff may be used to support the staffing structure of the pre-school. If bank staff is needed we will arrange this in advance. It may be possible to use bank staff in an emergency however each situation will be assessed individually *If any professionals request to come and see a child in the setting – i.e. Social worker/SEND professionals we will consider this on the basis that they share their procedures with us and we share a plan to do this in the safest way possible. *If a new child/SEND child finds transitioning to the setting very difficult we will consider a parent coming into our outside area with one member of staff to support their child’s PSED. This will be considered as a last resort and planned for accordingly. 9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularlyTravelStaff travel by car, bus or walkParents travel by car, bus or walk 25Pre-school and WAC *Wherever possible staff and parents should travel to the Pre-school using their own transport.*If public transport is necessary, current guidance on the use of public transport must be followed.*If any staff member/family has travelled abroad they must follow the guidance on 14 day self-isolation on return from some countries. Information on this will be displayed for the setting to refer to if required. *Parents will have to sign the parent declaration which will have a statement to confirm they have not visited any of the named countries. Pre-school and WAC parents9 Risk reduced and monitored regularlyFood storage/lunchChildren sit around tables at Greenshoots in big groups. We have good hand washing in place Staff wear gloves and aprons at food time25Pre-school and WAC *Parents will provide a lunch for their children in a plastic box for easy cleaning.This will be cleaned on arrival in the setting and then before it goes home. *Children should be able to manage as much of their lunch as possible for example – all food being easy to access. *Children now have an option of having a school cooked dinner. We have purchased a trolley that can be wheeled into the hall and then kitchen staff can put lunches on there to avoid too much cross over with the school kitchen/staff.*Children and staff MUST wash hands before and after eating lunch* Children will be spread out as much as possible at the table to avoid over crowing. *Staff will wear apron and gloves at food preparation time for snack etc.*A bin will be nearby for children to dispose of their rubbish.* Snack will be provided by staff who will wear apron and gloves. *Food will be stored appropriately *Pre-school will use different plates/cups of that from the WAC children. This will all be labeled in the cupboard. – More plates/cups purchased 9 Risk reduced and monitored regularlyParents paying, signing forms and needing information Pre-School and WAC *Parents will be asked to pay online including WAC. *Any forms that need to be signed will be placed on a clip board and can be given to a parent to sign. It can be given through the gate if needed to keep distance. *If a parent needs to discuss anything they will be asked to phone or email the setting to avoid gathering outside of the gate. *If a child has any forms to be signed they will be contacted before collection in order to reduce gatherings at the gate. *Registration paper work has been adapted so that parents can complete online and email back to the setting. All other information that parents need has been adapted where possible for online access. Newsletters etc. are now emailed. 9 Risk reduced and monitored regularlyShielding25Pre-school and WAC Shielding has now ended. We will still endeavor to make it as safe as possible for children/staff/parents who are clinically/extremely vulnerable. 9 Risk reduced and monitored regularlyNappy changeChildren have regular nappy changes at Greenshoots25Pre-school*Children will have their nappy changed at the same regular times. *Staff will wear the usual PPE and a face shield will be worn due to the higher risk in an enclosed space. *Children will have their nappy changed on the changing mat unit which will therefore help keep a safe distance. The children will walk up and down the steps if possible. If this is not possible the mat can be put in a more suitable place for the child to access more easily. *Nappy change mat will be checked for damages and if any – it will be replaced* The nappy change mat will be thoroughly cleaned between children and at the end of the day. *Parents will be asked to supply a pack of nappies that can remain in the setting9 Risk reduced and monitored regularlyPPE Disposal of PPE waste General use of apron and gloves for snack and nappy change25Pre-school and WAC *Regular PPE such as aprons and gloves will continue to be worn as normal practice. *Face masks may be worn for close contact with children if delivering intimate care. Face shields are also available in the setting. *If a child needs to be isolated staff should wear a mask and face shield.*PPE must be disposed of appropriately in the bin provided. *Face mask must be thrown away after single use *It is not recommended to wear PPE in the guidance however if any staff member wants to wear a face mask at all times then this will be accepted. *Staff will watch a video on how to use PPE effectively. *PPE will be stored in the bin provided in a yellow bag. Tissues used for sneezing and wiping children’s nose will go in this bin. *If there is a suspected case of Covid-19 PPE must be doubled bagged and held until we are advised on how to dispose of it safely. 9Risk reduced and will be monitored regularlyWorkforce25Pre-school and WAC *Staff will work on a rota and no longer need to be in consistent bubbles. * Registers will be organised and monitored in the usual way. *If staff or any of their household members are displaying symptoms of Covid-19 then they must isolate for 14 days. Staff should let management know of any concerns immediately.*If the pre-school is unable to be managed due to lack of staffing and illness then we may need to close on a temporary basis. * If a local lockdown is introduced we will follow the guidance for PHE. *Regular meetings with staff will take place for monitoring wellbeing *Staff will receive a copy of the risk assessment and Covid-19 policy before we return on the 7th September. We also have 2 inset days on 3rd/4th September to discuss procedures. 9 Risk reduced and monitored regularlyTraining Attend regular training 25Staff /Bank staff/Students*We will not attend any training until it advised safe to do so. * Staff meetings will be arranged and be done virtually at the present time*Regular training should continue on noodle now*Staff will complete illness and infection control training on noodle now.9 Risk reduced and monitored regularlyWAC service We run a breakfast and after school club for children from Laira Green Primary school and our pre-school children. 25Breakfast and After school club service *WAC is to be run in the conservatory area of the pre-school. *The conservatory and bathroom area will be cleaned before and after use from the WAC children*Children will be kept separated from each other in their school year groups in the conservatory area. Tables will be spaced out to support this. This will be planned and organised by ASC staff. *For BSC children – They will enter the conservatory through our outside area and will not use any other part of the setting apart from the toilet area if needed. Toilets will be cleaned after each use. *For ASC children – They will enter the conservatory via the back door. They will be brought to us by a member of school staff and we will organise them into their groups within the conservatory/decking. They will not use any other part of the pre-school and will leave through our outdoor area/gate. They will use the bathroom if needed and toilets will be cleaned after each use. *We have an extra member of staff coming to the setting to clean and prepare the conservatory before the ASC come over at 3pm. *The conservatory will then be deep cleaned every morning for BSC then cleaned again ready for the pre-school children. *No WAC parents will enter the setting and we will see that all children have a secure handover when arriving or leaving the setting. *Parents will be asked to pay online- Any forms that need signing will be on a clip board and handed to parents at the end of the session if needed. *BSC/ASC will wash their hands on arrival and throughout their session. *Breakfast and afternoon snack will continue to be offered and this will be done with usual PPE and with plates/cups that are used for the BSC and ASC bubbles only. *Children can have outside play on the playground which we will cone into sections for the different year groups. The equipment on the playground will be cleaned as much as possible before we take them out. *Children’s bags and coats will be stored appropriately in the conservatory so not to make contact with pre-school bags etc. on pegs. *Parents will need to sign a declaration form which will be emailed before child starts*All toys/resources will be cleaned in Milton after use from WAC children. *We will continue to liaise with the school about WAC*We will review this system in the first few weeks and will change and adapt if it is felt necessary. *The same applies for children in WAC if they are displaying symptoms of Covid-19 – Please refer to risk assessment – Child is unwell with Covid-19 symptoms. 9 Risk reduced and monitored regularly ................
