They will engage in a variety of listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities to support the development of their communicative skills. My Goal: This will be a productive and challenging year of learning, growth and fun. I am here to help you learn Spanish, but this won’t come without much effort on your part. Commit yourself to constant learning and you can succeed!“?En espa?ol!” Class is conducted primarily in Spanish. Students should speak in Spanish, both with the teacher and classmates, to the maximum extent possible. When it comes to speaking, you are being evaluated for effort more than accuracy. Do not worry about making mistakes; just get your point across.Materials: Please bring your pen/pencil, notes and vocabulary, Chromebook, and headphones to every class meeting. We will be using the textbook Descubre 1 for which you will have online access through the VHL SuperSite and a classroom set of books.Categories: Grades will be based on the categories and grading scale that follow.Tests 20%Speaking20%Writing20%Daily work 40%A NOTE REGARDING THE GRADING SCALEThe grade you receive is the grade you earned. Tests can include matching, multiple-choice sections, fill-in-the-blank sections, sentence writing, and short answer responses. A semester exam will be given at the end of each semester. Students will be made aware of test dates. Unannounced quizzes may also be given as formative assessments but will count in the daily work category.Speaking (20%): At least one major speaking assessment will be given per six weeks. Speaking assessments may be online or with the teacher, individually or with a partner. These assignments may be online, written, or oral.Online Activities on the Supersite: Students will also be assigned classwork and homework on the VHL Supersite that should be completed in a timely manner and with maximum effort. The purpose of the online work is to preview or reinforce concepts covered in class. There will be two attempts at each assignment, unless there are only two answer choices, in which case you have only one attempt. There is a 10% per day grade reduction for late work on the VHL Supersite.Quizzes: Students will be expected to be prepared to use what they’ve learned in class at any given moment. For this reason, quizzes may be given at any time. These will count as daily grades and serve as formative assessments to show students what they need to work on before tests. Late Work:Late work will result in a grade no higher than 70. We will follow the policy in the student handbook regarding late work due to absences. If you know you are going to be absent, it is your responsibility to contact the teacher prior to your absence to make a plan regarding making up the work that you will miss. The preferred method is to complete this work in advance. Tests and quizzes that have been missed must be made up before or after school in tutorials.Per school policy, late work will not be accepted after a 3-week grading period closes unless there are extenuating circumstances such as absences at the end of the grading period or a teacher error.Missing Assignments:We will follow the school policy regarding missing assignments and grades of zero.
