Where in The World Can Teens Volunteer? – Teacher's Guide

Overview

During summer holiday many teens what to spend time traveling. One good way to travel, learn about new cultures and help the world is by volunteering. In this activity the students will learn about organizations that send teenagers to different parts to the world as volunteers.

Students can access all the Internet sites for the Interactive Activities by clicking on Students' Area in the ECB On-line homepage, then click on:

Procedure

Ask you students if anyone volunteers after school or on the weekends. If yes, where does he/she volunteer, what are his/her responsibilities and why does he/she volunteer?

Give the students the activity Where Can Teens Volunteer.

Presentation

You have several months before serving in the army, going to university or before you want to start a new job. You decide to spend some time as a volunteer in another country. Prepare a presentation or poster about the volunteer organization you choose above. Include any relevant information from above and answer the following questions:

• Which country you are going to volunteer in.

• Why you choose this country?

• Why does this country need volunteers?

• What type of volunteer work you will be doing there?
