Honors Algebra 2/Trig is going to be the hardest math course you have ever taken. While much of the course material builds on what you have seen before, we approach things in a far more abstract way... There are some topics that are completely new and high level… You will be expected to demonstrate mastery of certain topics from last year by means of independent assignments…

Text: Glencoe Algebra 2.

Supplies Required Daily: Text, Math-only notebook; loose-leaf for homework; a folder or binder in which to keep loose-leaf, graph paper, homework, handouts, returned quizzes and tests; highlighters, pens, pencils; your graphing calculator; ruler. All supplies must be in class each day unless told otherwise.

Exams: Full-period exams will be given after each major topic, chapter or unit. Exams missed because of absence must be made up after school on the first day after your return. It is your responsibility, not mine, to arrange make-ups. Exams are announced at least 5 days in advance and review guides will be provided. Where appropriate, announced quizzes will be given.

Homework: THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT COURSE! Daily homework consists of proofreading your class notes and editing them for clarity, completeness and accuracy using your text for reference. If there is also a written assignment, it is done on loose-leaf, is due at the beginning of class, and at times will be collected and graded. If you do not have the assigned work you may be required to stay after school to do it. The heading on written assignments from the text must include your name, period, date and page and exercise numbers. Text exercises are to be copied onto your paper and all work must be shown. When we go over the exercises in class, be prepared to explain how you got your answer.

➢ Homework assignments and other course information are posted daily by 6 PM on the Iona Prep website through the Staff or Department link on the home page. It is your responsibility to know what your assignments are and when they are due, particularly if you have missed class for any reason.

Grading: The marking period grade is the result of an accumulation of points earned divided by the total number of possible points. Points are accumulated through chapter tests, quizzes, independent assignments, and homework. There will be both a midterm and final examination. You may take the Math B Regents at the end of June, 2007 to be eligible for the NYS Regents Diploma with Advanced Distinction.

Online Help: The publisher’s website has excellent resources such as extra examples, self-check quizzes, vocabulary review, chapter tests, standardized test practice and Practice Problem of the Week. To access the textbook through the website, click on the Online Student Edition link and sign in as user ALG2, password N4c6abrada.
