The Met is set up into galleries. Every exhibit is divided into many galleries in which there is an explanation of all of the art work, artifacts and structures. There is an explanation for every gallery and every piece. Look for it.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Visit any ONE of the exhibits listed below; go through all the galleries of that exhibit.

A. Ancient Egypt

B. Greek and Roman Art

C. Ancient China – Asian Art

D. Ancient Near Eastern Art and Islamic Art

E. Sometimes there are visiting exhibits which you may use for your project.

2. After you have seen the entire exhibit, choose the one or two galleries that interested you the most.

a. Type a detailed report of at least two pages (size 12 font, times new roman, double-spaced) telling me about the specific items that are on display in the galleries you have chosen. Name the galleries. Example: Egyptian gallery 21. To receive the most possible points and to enhance your project, try to tie in what you saw with what you learned. For example, if you saw some sort of tools, try to explain what they could have been used for, why they looked the way they did, etc.

b. This part of the report should be about your experience, so you can use the first person. (When I visited the Met on October 6th, I was intrigued by Egyptian Gallery …… and so on.)

c. Include pictures of the things that you saw. Some pictures are available online. Remember, no flash photography is allowed!!!!!!

d. Make a creative cover for your report showing your experience, including your name, period and title.

e. If you use any information from the gallery or from the website, be sure to properly cite it. More information can be found on how to make proper citations on my website under a link labeled Citations.

f. REMEMBER when typing your report to focus on some of the overarching themes of continuity and change, geography and history, political and social systems, religions and value systems, economics and technology, diversity, impact of the individual, global interaction, and finally art and literature.

**** When you pay your entrance fee at the museum, be sure to get a receipt and save it. The button you receive does not count. Place this receipt on the back of your front cover (tape it, staple it). This will be proof to me that you actually visited the museum. I need to see proof for you to receive any credit. ****

Things to remember:

1. No flash photography allowed at either site. Most cameras have the non-flash option. Otherwise you may have to buy postcards or visit the website.

2. Be sure to have a means of recording what you see (a notebook, pen, tape recorder). Remember, chances are you will forget what you saw between the time you see the exhibit and write the report.

3. See me/ Email me if you have any questions.
