Project final report: Econometrics with Open Source software

Learning and Teaching Development Project Final Report

|Project: |Econometrics with Open Source software |

|Author: |Karl Shutes |

|Period covered: |1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009 |

Purpose of the report

To report on the final project outcomes, including the main activities of the project and how these may have differed from original plans. Project resources and links to web resources, dissemination details and any evidence of project impact should also be provided. The report should be completed by 30 June 2009.

Main objectives/broad purposes of the project

The provision of data sets and scripts for ‘Analysis of Economic Data’ (2nd Ed) by Koop in order to aid students in the learning of econometric techniques.

Main activities of the project (and how and why these may have differed from original plans)

The data sets are provided and the scripts are available for both R and gretl in the attached zip file.

Outcomes of the project

The zip file attached contains the data and scripts for the exercises in the book. A number of exercises are left open, with a number of possible specifications, for students to decide on the ‘correct’ answer for themselves.

Available resources (including web links)

I am attaching the resultant files with this document as I am unsure where the Economics Network would like to publish the scripts and data. A number of these will need to be updated as the software is itself updated.

Dissemination (details of events, dates etc disseminated and planned)

DEE poster in Cardiff 2009 is planned with examples of the output for instructors.

Impact (please include any evaluation data or any other evidence of the project’s impact)
