All of the software that is necessary for this evaluation is included in the VHD.For an overview and for more information about the features of Service Manager, see What’s New in Service Manager 2016.Important The software that is included on this preconfigured VHD is intended for evaluation and deployment planning purposes only. Please note the following:?The evaluation version of Windows Server? 2016 expires 180 days after installation.?The evaluation version of Microsoft SQL Server expires 180 days after installation.?You cannot use the evaluation version of SQL Server in a production environment.?The evaluation version of Service Manager expires 180 days after installation.?The evaluation versions of Windows Server, SQL Server, and Service Manager are in English only.Evaluating Service Manager by Using a Preconfigured VHD topics?How to Prepare a Computer to Host the Service Manager Virtual MachineDescribes how to prepare a computer to host the virtual machine for Service Manager.?How to Create the Virtual Machine to Run Service ManagerDescribes how to use Hyper-V Manager to create the virtual machine to run Service Manager.?How to Configure the Virtual Machine and Start Service ManagerDescribes how to configure and start Service Manager on the virtual machine.How to Prepare a Computer to Host the Service Manager Virtual MachineYou can use the following information to prepare a computer to host a Service Manager virtual machine.The following are some recommendations and requirements for the computer that hosts a Service Manager virtual machine:?We recommend that you use a computer with a Dual-Core Pentium?4, 2?gigahertz (GHz) (x64) processor or greater.?We recommend that you have at least 50?gigabytes (GB) of hard disk space available for the virtual machine where the Service Manager management server is installed. You should also have at least 70?GB of hard disk space available for the virtual machine where the Service Manager data warehouse management server is installed. The virtual hard disk (VHD) files are preconfigured with a dynamic VHD that can expand up to 100?GB.?You must have at least 8?GB of memory available for each virtual machine.?If you create virtual machines for both the Service Manager management server and the Service Manager data warehouse management server, you should increase the sizing recommendations using the information above for the host computer.To prepare the computer to host one or more virtual machines for Service Manager, do the following:?Install and configure one of the supported operating systems for Hyper-V hosts for System Center 2016. For more information, see System Requirements: Hyper-V Hosts.?Install and configure the Hyper-V role in Windows. For more information about configuring Hyper-V, see Install the Hyper-V Role and Configure a Virtual Machine.You can use the following procedure to extract the Service Manager VHD file.To extract the VHD files1.Download the following self-extracting files and all the .bin files to the computer that is running Hyper-V.?SC2016_SCSM_VHD.exe To evaluate the Service Manager management serverYou can download the files from the Microsoft Download Center.2.Place all the downloaded files from each .exe file into its own separate folder.3.For each self-extracting .exe file, complete the following steps:a.Double-click the self-extracting .exe file to begin the wizard that extracts the VHD file.b.Click Next and then review the software license terms. If you accept the terms, click I accept the agreement, and then click Next.c.Provide the folder location where you want to save the extracted VHD file, and then click Next.d.To extract the VHD file, click Extract.4.After the wizard finishes, click Finish. To confirm that a VHD file has been extracted, open the destination folder that you specified for the file.How to Create the Virtual Machine to Run Service ManagerYou can use the following procedure to create the virtual machine for a Service Manager management server by using Hyper-V Manager. Tip You can also use this procedure to create the virtual machine for a Service Manager data warehouse management server.Membership in the local Administrators group, or equivalent, on the computer that you are configuring is the minimum required to complete this procedure.To create the virtual machine to run Service Manager1.On the computer on which Hyper-V is installed, in Server Manager, click Tools, and then click Hyper-V Manager.2.In Hyper-V Manager, in the Actions pane, click New, and then click Virtual Machine.3.On the Before You Begin page, click Next.4.On the Specify Name and Location page, in the Name box, type the name for the virtual machine. Determine where you want to store the virtual machine, and then click Next.5.If your host system is running Windows Server?2012, skip to the next step.If your host system is running Windows Server?2012?R2, on the Specify Generation page, ensure that Generation 1 is selected, and then click Next.6.On the Assign Memory page, type the amount of memory to assign to the virtual machine, and then click Next.Note 8,192?megabytes (MB) of memory is the minimum that Service Manager requires.7.On the Configure Networking page, select the appropriate connection to use for the virtual machine, and then click Next.8.On the Connect Virtual Hard Disk page, select Use an existing virtual hard disk, specify the location of the Service Manager VHD file, and then click Next.9.On the Completing the New Virtual Machine Wizard page, click Finish to create the virtual machine.10.Right-click the virtual machine that you just created, and then click Start. The virtual machine starts.11.Right-click the virtual machine that you just created, and then click Connect.12.On the region and language page, select the appropriate settings for Country or region, App language, and Keyboard layout, and then click Next.13.On the Please read the license terms page, review the license agreement. If you agree with the terms, click I accept.14.On the administrator account password page, enter and reenter a password for the built-in administrator account. Click Finish.15.When the system prompts you to sign in, click Action, and then click Ctrl+Alt+Delete.16.Enter the Administrator password that you have previously configured to log on to the virtual machine.After the initial setup of Windows Server? 2016 is complete, you can change the virtual machine's computer name, and you must join the virtual machine to an Active Directory domain. The name of the computer cannot exceed 15 characters.17.Perform any necessary network configuration, such as assigning a static IP address to the virtual machine.18.Create a domain account for the Service Manager administrator and add that account to the local Administrators group on the virtual machine.19.Log on to the virtual machine using the account that you created for the Service Manager administrator role.Note This evaluation VHD has a Remote Desktop setting of Don’t allow connections to this computer. You must change this setting if you intend to connect to this computer by using Remote Desktop.How to Configure the Virtual Machine and Start Service ManagerYou can use the following procedures to configure SQL Server, Service Manager, and then start the Service Manager console on the virtual machine. After you complete these procedures, your Service Manager management server, Service Manager data warehouse management server, and the Service Manager console are ready for use on the virtual machine.Before you configure Service Manager on the virtual machine, you must have a supported version of Microsoft SQL Server installed and configured. You can either:?install and configure the evaluation version of SQL?Server?2014 that is included on the virtual machine by using the following procedure.?use an existing instance of SQL Server in your environment.To complete the following procedures, you must be a member of the local Administrators group, or have equivalent permissions on the server that you are configuring. Also, ensure that you are logged in using a domain account before you start these procedures.To configure SQL Server on the virtual machine1.If Server Manager is maximized, minimize it.2.On the virtual machine desktop, double-click Configure SQL Server.3.On the Product Key page, ensure that Specify a free edition and Evaluation are selected, and then click Next.4.On the License Terms page, review the license terms. If you agree with the terms, select I accept the license terms, and then click Next.5.On the Microsoft Update page, if you want to use Microsoft update, select Use Microsoft Update to check for updates, then click Next.6.On the Complete Image Rules page, click Next.7.On the Select Prepared Features page, click Next.8.On the Feature Review page, click Next.9.On the Instance Configuration page, select Default instance, and then click Next.10.On the Server Configuration page, click Next.11.On the Database Engine Configuration page, click Add Current User, and then click Next.12.On the Analysis Services Configuration page, click Add Current User, and then click Next.13.On the Reporting Services Configuration page, click Next.14.On the Ready to Complete Image page, click Complete.15.On the Complete page, after SQL Server is installed and configured, click Close.To configure the Service Manager management server on the virtual machine1.If Server Manager is maximized, minimize it.2.On the virtual machine desktop, double-click Setup Service Manager. The System Center 2016 Service Manager Setup Wizard opens.3.On the System Center 2016 Service Manager page, click Service Manager management server.4.On the Product registration page, read the Microsoft Software License Terms, click I have read, understood, and agree with the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next.5.On the Installation location page, verify that sufficient free disk space is available, and then click Next. If necessary, click Browse to change the location where the Service Manager management server will be installed.6.On the System check results page, the prerequisite check passed or at least passed with warnings, and then click Next.7.On the Configure the Service Manager database page, Service Manager creates a new database in the existing instance. Click Next.8.On the Configure the Service Manager management group page, complete the following steps:a.In the Management group name box, type a unique name for the management group.Important Management group names must be unique. Do not use the same management group name when you deploy a Service Manager management server and a Service Manager data warehouse management server. Additionally, do not use the management group name that is used for Operations Manager.b.Click Browse and select the user account or group to which you want to give Service Manager administrative credentials, and then click Next.9.On the Configure the account for Service Manager services page, click Domain account and specify the user name, password, and domain for the account, then click Test Credentials. After you see a The credentials were accepted message, click Next.10.On the Configure the Service Manager workflow account page, click Domain account and specify the user name, password, and domain for the account, then click Test Credentials. After you see a The credentials were accepted message, click Next.11.On the Diagnostic and Usage Data page, choose your preference for participation in the program. Optionally, click Tell me more about the program, and then click Next.12.On the Use Microsoft Update to help keep your computer secure and up-to-date page, choose your preference for using Microsoft Update to check for Service Manager updates. If you want Windows Update to check for updates, select Initiate machine wide Automatic update and then click Next.13.On the Installation summary page, click Install.14.On the Setup completed successfully page, we recommend that you leave Open the Encryption Backup or Restore Wizard selected, and then click Close. For more information about backing up the encryption key, see Completing Deployment by Backing Up the Encryption Key.To configure Service Manager data warehouse management server on the virtual machine1.If Server Manager is maximized, minimize it.2.On the virtual machine desktop, double-click Setup service Manager. The System Center Technical Preview Service Manager Setup Wizard opens.3.On the System Center 2016 Service Manager page, click Service Manager Data warehouse management server.4.On the Product Registration page, read the Microsoft Software License Terms, click I have read, understood, and agree with the terms of the license agreement, and then click Next.5.On the Installation Location page, verify that sufficient free disk space is available, and then click Next. If necessary, click Browse to change the location where the Service Manager data warehouse management server will be installed.6.On the System check results page, the prerequisite check passed or at least passed with warnings, and then click Next.7.On the Configure data warehouse databases page, in the Database server box, the local computer name of the physical computer that will host the data warehouse databases appears. When Default appears in the SQL Server instance box, click Next.Important A warning message appears if you are using the default collation (SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS). Support for multiple languages in Service Manager is not possible when you are using the default collation. If later you decide to support multiple languages using a different collation, you have to reinstall SQL Server. For more information, see Software Requirements for System Center 2016.8.On the Configure additional data warehouse DataMarts page, Service Manager checks the server for an existing instance of SQL?Server. When the instance is found, Service Manager creates a new database in the existing instance. When an instance appears, click Next.9.On the Configure the Service Manager management group page, complete the following:a.In the Management group name box, type a unique name for the management group.Important Management group names must be unique. Do not use the same management group name when you deploy a Service Manager management server and a Service Manager data warehouse management server. Additionally, do not use the management group name that is used for Operations Manager.b.Click Browse and select the user account or group to which you want to give Service Manager administrative credentials, and then click Next.10.On the Configure the reporting server for the data warehouse page, Service Manager uses the current server if SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) is present. Accept the default information, and then click Next.11.On the Configure the account for Service Manager services page, click Domain account and specify the user name, password, and domain for the account, then click Test Credentials. After you see a The credentials were accepted message, click Next.12.On the Configure the reporting account page, specify the user name, password, and domain for the account, and then click Test Credentials. After you see a The credentials were accepted message, click Next.13.On the Configure Analysis Service for OLAP cubes page, click Next.14.On the Configure Analysis Services credential page, click Domain account and specify the user name, password, and domain for the account, then click Test Credentials. After you see a The credentials were accepted message, click Next.15.On the Diagnostic and Usage Data page, choose your preference for participation in the program. Optionally, click Tell me more about the program, and then click Next.16.On the Use Microsoft Update to help keep your computer secure and up-to-date page, choose your preference for using Microsoft Update to check for Service Manager updates. When the Service Manager Console tile appears, right-click it and click Pin to Start.2.While till on the Start menu, click Service Manager Console.After you start the Service Manager console, you can register the management server with a data warehouse management server if you have one installed. ................
