Job Title:Retail Operations ManagerDepartment:Retail DivisionLocation:Rowans Hospice Retail – Farlington Warehouse and Retail ShopsReporting to:Director of People Services & Income GenerationJob Purpose:The Retail Operations Manager is responsible for leading and managing the day to day operational activities and services of the Retail operation at Rowans Hospice Charity. This includes retail shops, warehousing and logistics and to ensure that the Retail Division adheres to all relevant legislation, compliance and Health and Safety regulations as required. The role holder is responsible for achieving financial targets and managing the Retail team of staff and volunteers. Contact with others (Internal and external): All retail staff and volunteers. External organisations/suppliers and members of the general public.Main areas of responsibility:Key Accountabilities &Tasks - Management and LeadershipTo build and develop a high performing team through effective leadership, ensuring support, supervision, training and development is available to all Retail staff and volunteers.To ensure the retail shops, warehouse and logistics areas are operationally efficient and effective, whilst building and developing practice, process and operational infrastructure. To develop and implement relevant Rowans Hospice Charity’s policies and procedures. To ensure all contracts and agreements, relating to the Retail Division’s operational activity, fulfil legal requirements. To ensure all staff and volunteers are appraised, developed and managed within Rowans Hospice Performance Cycle. To lead the recruitment and selection of staff and volunteers, thereby building and engaging a team reflective of the local community and supportive of the Charity’s values. To lead in the development and review of policies, procedures and guidelines, ensuring all staff and volunteers are aware of their responsibilities and a clear communication channel is developed with them. Retail Operation To investigate and develop new operational activities and opportunities for the shops, warehouse and logistics operation, whilst keeping the Retail Division aligned with up-to-date practice and process and relevant legislative requirements. To ensure audit, stock and financial controls are stringent, effective and monitored across the Retail operation. To provide statistics, reports and management information for the Retail operation as required by the Director of People Services and Income Generation. To develop and manage retail budgets and targets as guided by the Director of PS and Income Generation. To actively promote the Charity throughout the local community, working with new audiences and external munication To promote the profile of Rowans Hospice in the community.To represent the Retail Division within the community, attending events and talks as required.To seek and update knowledge on retail activities and trends from competitors and use this information to incorporate ideas for development.Health & SafetyTo ensure all premises, vehicles and activities comply with relevant legislation, including the Health & Safety at Work Act, Fire Safety and Trading Standards.To ensure staff and volunteers in all areas receive adequate and appropriate training with regard to health and safety, fire safety and trading standards.To ensure that all premises are adequately maintained, secure and refurbished and that procedures are in place to ensure security of premises, staff, volunteers and stock.Learning and Development To participate in the induction training of all staff and volunteers, including contractors who visit Retail sites and vehicles.To attend fire lectures, drills, statutory and regulatory training as required.Qualifications, skills and knowledge requiredQualifications/ExperienceBusiness degree and/or business management qualificationMinimum of 5 years’ experience within a retail/service environment at a managerial levelExperience in the third sector would be advantageousProven financial achievement in a results-driven environment Skills and KnowledgeUp to date knowledge of retail legislation Excellent interpersonal skillsGood written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate diplomaticallyGood report writing and presentation skills with a high level of computer literacyAble to build and maintain effective professional relationships so as to collaborate effectively with internal and external contactsBehaviours Professional approach with a commitment to continued professional developmentTeam player with the ability to lead, coach, motivate and to positively embrace changeCommitment to quality, best practice and continual improvementPositive outlook, self-motivated with a can-do attitude, a drive for results and a solution focused approachOther RequirementsClean driving licenceCar owner (job requires use of own vehicle)Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974This post is subject to an exception order under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
