This research and support role offers an opportunity for the application and development of data analysis and evaluation skills, together with an opportunity to gain an insight into operational leadership in a service-providing children’s charity.

|Purpose of the Role: |

• Help to deliver consultancy, evaluation, research and policy through the provision of data collection and analysis and related organisational/administrative services and by supporting the Director of Operations.

|Main Duties & Responsibilities: |

1. Administrative Support

• Manage the diary of the Director of Operations and provide support to other Heads of Service as required.

• Ensure that files are kept up-to-date, including record keeping and monitoring.

• Assist with preparation and organisation of workshops, seminars, conferences and other events as required.

• Support the Policy and Research team in general administrative support e.g. organising and taking notes at meetings/transcribing, literature/internet searching, setting up meetings as necessary;

• From time to time to assist senior management team in bid applications for further work - finding relevant information from Coram and wider evidence.

• Work as part of the administration team, which includes assisting when workloads are high and working to tight deadlines.

• Be flexible in approach and undertake all duties that may fall within the range as directed by the line manager.

2. Research and Consultancy

• To support the delivery of consultancy and research projects

o Undertake that data design, entry and analysis is of a high standard.

o Lead on organising and scheduling data entry for specific projects

o Suggesting and implementing robust approaches to data capture where required.

• To help in the production of reports required by the organisation

o Producing tables, charts and secondary statistics

o Proofing and improving draft reports

o Writing targeted summaries for wider dissemination including web versions.

|Skills & Experience |

Essential:

• Strong IT skills, including experience of setting up and maintaining Excel spreadsheets; databases;

• Strong numeracy and analytical capability

• Information gathering skills eg on-line searching

• Strong written and verbal communication skills including excellent punctuation, copy editing and the ability produce accurate simple reports.

• Strong administrative and organisational skills, delivering to project deadlines, and including minute taking, meeting organisation, and the creation of filing or other systems

• Well developed interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate well with a wide range of people including practitioners, policy/research staff, managers and service users within and beyond Coram

• An eye for detail and interest in analysing and identifying trends and generating reports

• Able to work effectively alone or as part of a flexible team and to attend occasional evening or weekend events

• An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities

Desirable:

• Research/evaluation experience; experience with SPSS or other data analysis software.

• Experience of working across various levels in the voluntary and community sector, and/or local authorities, health or education.

• Knowledge of issues for children, young people and families and of the policy landscape, either in general or in a specific Coram area of interest.
