There is a link on each school’s website. There is a tutorial on the front page (left side) if you need it. You can search by keyword, subject or standards. Here are the types of media you can find:Typing PalWebsite url is slightly different for each school. ALWAYS use the link on your school’s Websites We Use page – if you try to go into different school your login will not work.Guidelines for keyboard instruction:Review with students before keyboarding begins:Position your body in front of the G and?H keysKeep your head up, eyes should focus on the screen not on your keyboard.Relax your shoulders, elbows in close to your body.Keep your feet on the floor squarely in front of your chair.Keep your wrists flat and off the keyboard or desk.Keep fingers curved and resting on the home row keys? asdf jkl;Use your thumbs to strike the spacebar.District Benchmarks:3rd grade - 5 wpm 80% accuracy 4th grade - 10 wpm 87% accuracy5th grade - 15 wpm 90% accuracyMiddle School - 20 – 30 wpm 95% accuracyRecommendations:Focus on ACCURACY BEFORE SPEED. PROPER TECHNIQUE WITH FINGERS ON HOME ROW should be stressed in lower grades – speed will come with a solid familiarity of the keyboard and key locations. Keyboard covers can be used to encourage proper technique.Assign 15 – 20 minutes of practice about twice a week.I am the district admin for this tool – if you need help let me know. Did you know that you can add texts for students to type that are curricular based? You can create tests to evaluate students with. I create all the accounts for students in the buildings that I am working in, ask your ITSS for help with accounts and text creations or send me an email and I would be happy to help.Second grade – main focus is USING TWO HANDS TO TYPE, introduce after New Year. Speed and accuracy is not the objective. I am happy to come and introduce keyboarding to your students, just let me know.Social Studies Tools:3200400635000Putnam BOCES: the grade level you are interested in andleft19113500 click on it and you will see this screen:left184150Username: Password: 00Username: Password: First let’s go over the basic tools of Pixie 3070993000Pixie?software allows students to creatively share ideas, imagination, and understanding through a combination of text, original artwork, voice narration, and images.First we had KidPix, then Pixie 2 and now Pixie 3 with?more features and?it's?even?more user-friendly.??When you first open Pixie 3 you can click on Project and decide Page Layout (New), Open an existing file, choose a pre-made Activity or go to Pics4Learning library to locate hundreds of images. This is also where you decide if you want to print, export into various medias,?configure different layouts of images and even share as a team project (new). With this new feature you can have multiple students working on the same project at the same time and then combine their work. When a student opens Pixie it will give them a blank page, ready for them to begin.A couple of new features:Duplicate - you can use lasso tool and whatever is selected is duplicated. (Can not go to multiple pages, using copy/paste for that)The symbol +on a page of paper icon?is to add a new page.If you click on paint you have several tools to use. Helps with the hand-eye coordination issue of kids wanting to draw a “good pumpkin or head” or makes beautiful flowers or snowflake patterns.?Stickers - allows you to?use?any of their stickers put another great feature is the camera. Your student can take their own picture, have it appear in a shape and then it imports into their work. Think of the possibilities of being the star of their own story! The slide allows you to adjust picture to fill the shape.ANOTHER GREAT FEATURE IN STICKERS – Any piece of clipart can be made a sticker. Use it in a template and then everyone has it.Glue - allows you to "plant" a sticker, photo, or picture to the background and then you can paint it or alter it as you wish. If you don't glue the stickers etc. float over your work and are non-editable.Lock and Clone – Click on a sticker and put it on side of template. Under Options menu you can then lock it in place and Clone it. Allows you to use “your own sticker/cliparts” AND is a way to limit endless searching in stickers and “decision making or not-making.”Edit Tools:Still the best tool ever - the undo?arrow?- will let you go back over and over again until you can fix what's wrong - especially great for our youngest students!Start Over – gives you back the template you began with or the blank page.?285750049212500-16192449212600One of the big advantages of Pixie is the ability to choose the output for your students work. or choose how you print itThe more options button allows you to choose printer and number of copies in the format you have chosen. Now let’s talk about what it available for you already. Two years ago I created a website that allows teachers and students from all five elementary schools to have access to any and all the templates I have created. Why this was done – home access, one place to put templates instead of updating all 5 buildings Quick Shares or individual websites.Let’s all go to:Your building website: or ...Note: You can click on link in left column or on the button in bottom right side of school home page that links to “student websites etc” page. Once you click on link or button you will see the school’s Websites We Use page. This aqua colored bar was added to each page. This will allow you and your students to have access to dozens and dozens of templates that were created after a request from a teacher.Kidspiration – file attached on website. Company’s tutorial file.
