Installing Oracle Client on Win 7 (64 bit platform)

CLEANUP OLD ORACLE CLIENT INSTALL

Login to the PC with Administrator privileges.

Run RegEdit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE

a. Delete Old Oracle Client Reg Settings. If the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \Oracle directory exists then delete it and all values in the folder.

b. Delete Old Previous Oracle Client Version ODBC connections. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \ODBC\ODBC.INI and search for any folder (ODBC Connections) that contain references to K:\ora8wnt\BIN\SQORA32.DLL or K:\ora112ic.. Delete the folder Example Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \ODBC\ODBC.INI\TRIM folder to Delete Trim ODBC or SIMSPROD etc (all ODBC connections)

c. Delete Old Oracle ODBC Drivers. (DO NOT DELETE MICROSOFT ODBC FOR ORACLE OR ANYTHING SIMILAR. It must be Oracle for Oracle) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE \ODBC\ODBCINST.INI and search for any driver pointing to K:\ora8wnt\BIN\ or Oracleclientinstall11.2 and delete registry key for Oracleclientinstall11.2 or similar. DO NOT DELETE sql server or sqldeveloper drivers registry entries

d. Exit RegEdit

e. Remove Old Oracle PATH and Add New.

i. Right click on Computer from explorer to access the properties

ii. Navigate to Advanced System settings Tab then click on Environment Variables.

iii. Edit Path variable in System Variables.

iv. Remove any references to other Oracle client locations eg. “K:\ora102ic” or “K:\ora8wnt” or “K:\ora112ic”.

v. Add K:\ora112ic or K:\ora112icfull to path before any other oracle home directories.

Map Drive K

Open windows explorer and check that K drive is defined to be \\serv08\Public. If not then Map K drive to \\serv08\Public and check the “Reconnect at login” box.

Add Environmental Variables

Navigate to Advanced System setting tab then click on Environment Variables button. In Systems Variables area

1) Add K:\ora112ic or K:\ora112icfull to Path if not already there.

2) Create new variable called TNS_ADMIN if not already set with a value of K:\ora_tns_admin

Install Oracle Client

Login to the PC with Administrator privileges.

Run Full client install K:\ora112full\Win_X32\client\setup.exe

Few tips:

Choose Administrator install option

Choose Skip software updates option

Choose path where the Oracle client would be installed (eg: C:\app\lsamuel\11.2.0)

Click on Install.

Let it go through the full cycle of installation until you get ‘Full installation is successful’ dialog box.

Log out and let user login. Check that disk K: is still mapped correctly.
