You all know how Christmas was created right… or do you.

B. Body

First off where in the Bible does it say Jesus was born on December 25th.

If you think it’s somewhere in the Bible, think again.

It says nowhere in the Bible that Jesus was born on Christmas.

So you may be wondering “how did they get” December 25th.

A long time ago Romans before Jesus was born the Romans celebrated many Holidays.

A lot of them are in December and on the 25th they celebrated Saturnalia a holiday named after a God.

In the 4th century CE, Christianity imported the Saturnalia festival hoping to take the pagan masses in with it.

They succeeded in doing this.

This allowed Christians to use this Holiday as Jesus’s Birth day or Christmas

When was Jesus born?

Shortly before Jesus was born Caesar Augustus the ruler at the time commanded that everyone return to their home town.

This journey took a week or two to make. This journey would have been harsh to make in the winter.

Another reason Jesus birth could not be around this time is the sheep.

Back then they kept the sheep out in the field from around late March to mid-November.

But when Jesus was born, the sheep were out in the field.

We still have the question, when was Jesus born?

We can estimate when Jesus was born by counting backward from his death on Nisan 14 in the spring of the year 33 C.E.

Jesus was about 30 years old when he began his three-and-a-half-year ministry, so he was born in the early fall of 2 B.C.E.

Do you ever wonder why on Christmas you get presents?

In pre-Christian Rome, the emperors compelled their most despised citizens to bring offerings and gifts during the Saturnalia.

The Catholic Church gave this custom a Christian flavor by re-rooting it in the supposed gift-giving of Saint Nicholas.

Now you’re wondering who Saint Nicholas is. Well he is Santa Claus.

The Catholic Church adopted the Nicholas cult and taught that he did (and they should) distribute gifts on December 25th.

Washington Irving then wrote a book about him with flying horses and a man with a white beard using the Dutch name for Saint Nicholas or as you all know him “ Santa Claus”

Where does the mistletoe come from?

A long time ago Druid rituals use mistletoe to poison their human sacrificial victim.

The Christian custom of “kissing under the mistletoe” is a later synthesis of the Druidic sacrificial cult.

C. Conclusion

So these are some facts you may not have known about Christmas
