Background:

The aim of the conference is to provide a programme of multi-professional interest speakers from a variety of backgrounds (Medicine, Ethics, Law, Social Sciences) who will thoroughly analyse the topic and facilitate the cross-fertilisation of ideas, views and understanding.

The theme of the conference is ‘Clinical decision making at the beginning and end of life’ within the NHS. Clinical Ethics Committees and other elements of Clinical Ethics Consultation, as key elements of good clinical governance and practice, can be instrumental in raising awareness of ethical issues in medicine and in providing practical support on teaching and training, general guidance and case-based consultation.

Poster-Sessions will facilitate ample opportunity for networking and learning for anyone interested in Ethics in the Practice of Medicine.

UKCEN will also offer a pre-conference workshop ‘Practical dilemmas in clinical ethics’ This will be of interest to members of clinical ethics committees and anyone interested in developing clinical ethics in their healthcare organisation.

Speakers will discuss current provision of clinical ethics support in the UK, different models of clinical ethics provision and practical case discussions.
