ARTICLE I - Name

▪ Ohio State University Rugby Football Club

ARTICLE II - Purpose

▪ The OSURFC was established to provide a competitive rugby experience to student athletes at The Ohio State University. The OSURFC’s goal to the individual is to imbue them with the highest ideals of professionalism and character so as

to assume the primal responsibilities of a leader and role model later in life. The OSURFC is also dedicated to helping rugby grow as a sport in the state of Ohio.

ARTICLE III - Membership

▪ Any student at The Ohio State University is qualified for membership. Only students that have been enrolled in post-secondary education for 5 years or less are eligible to compete for the “A Side”, the OSURFC’s most competitive team. Our club also adopts the university's non-discrimination policy statement (Reference Article .

▪ A student is expected to attend practice regularly and sign their name on the sign-up-sheet each practice. A 24-hr. notice to either the Coach(es), Captain(s), President, Vice President, or Secretary minimum is required to be excused from training.

▪ Club dues are required for membership.

▪ Members are expected to attend fundraising and charity functions run by the club and to represent the club positively at such events.

▪ A member has the right to withdraw from the club at any time.

▪ If it is determined that a player has engaged in conduct detrimental to the team or misrepresented the team in any fashion; he is liable to be dismissed from the team.

▪ Dismissal will be decided by the coaching staff, with a majority vote amongst the coaches determining the fate of the player up for dismissal.

▪ All players competing for the A Side will be registered with USA Rugby, our national governing body.

ARTICLE IV - Meeting

▪ The club meets for practice starting in early September (see for details). Practice is usually held on TWR at 6:00 at the Beekman Park Intramural Fields but can vary yearly and seasonally. The current practice schedule for fall of 2018 is Tues & Wed from 6-8pm and Thurs from 8-10pm.

▪ Special practice sessions or meetings may be called by the coaching staff or officers. Details will always be posted to the website.

▪ All players are responsible for preparing the field for practices and games. Players are also responsible for the proper treatment of club and university equipment.

ARTICLE V – Officers

▪ President: Responsible for all club activities on and off the field

▪ Vice President: Assist President and work on fundraising for the club

▪ Captain: Responsible for leading the club at practice and games

▪ Secretary: Assist the President in any way possible, maintain an updated team roster and contact list, and assist in the duty of fundraising

▪ Treasurer: Collect dues each season, maintain a balance sheet for all players

▪ Risk Management Officer: Must be American Red Cross 1st Aid and CPR Certified, responsible for the well being of individuals of the team during club events on or off the field

▪ Social Chairman: Responsible for organizing all club social events and post-game hosting of traveling teams and assist in the duty of fundraising

▪ Recruiting Chairman: Organize and lead recruiting efforts on and off campus and assist new players

▪ Sponsorship Chairman: Search for and acquire new sponsorship opportunities

▪ Social Media/ Website Chairman: Responsible for maintaining a positive and constant social media presence for the team including but not limited to club events, game scores, and team updates. Also responsible for maintaining an updated website with the afore mentioned details

ARTICLE VI - Elections

▪ Elections take place each May after the Spring season and are officiated by the incumbent president.

▪ Officers may be removed from their position by the coaching staff

▪ The next years positions shall be voted on by the club team in order as listed above (Reference Article V).

▪ The individuals that are selected for positions must be either nominated by a player on the team or volunteer themselves. Each nomination and volunteer must be seconded by another member of the team. After all nominees have been selected, they will separate themselves from the team so that the team may discuss. Once discussions have concluded the position will be put to a team vote. After the new officer is selected the nominees may return. Only after the selected nominee is notified and accepts the position is he to hold the Officers position.

ARTICLE VII – Funds

▪ Club funds are allocated by the head coach and officers

▪ Club dues are approximately $300 per player per Fall Season and $150 per Spring Season

▪ Fundraising efforts are coordinated by the Sponsorship Chairman, Vice-President, and Secretary. All players, current and prospective, must assist in the raising of club funds

ARTICLE VIII – Advisor

▪ The advisor currently has no responsibility to the club.

▪ The club must comply with any over seeing body such as The Ohio State Office of Student Life, USA Rugby, or Ohio State Recreational Sports

ARTICLE IX – Coach

▪ New coaches will be selected by current coaching staff or by the club officers.

▪ Coaches are currently not paid.

ARTICLE X – Travel

▪ The Head Coach or President will arrange all travel for the club.

ARTICLE XI – Non-Discrimination Policy: All student organizations desiring to benefit from registered student organization status with The Ohio State University must include in their constitution a non-discrimination policy statement that accords with the Student Organization Registration Guidelines. Such statement will generally be at least as broad as the University’s Non-Discrimination policy statement. Where applicable, a student organization may adopt a statement that reflects its eligibility criteria for Student Officers.

An example of an acceptable non-discrimination policy statement is as follows:

This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of age, color, disability, gender identity or expression, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or veteran status.

ARTICLE XI – Amendments

▪ Amendments to this document can be presented to the collection of officers and approved by a majority vote between the officers.

▪ A yearly budget shall be aptly available to all members of the club at any given time. This is the responsibility of the Treasurer.
