1. Annabel Lee Collage

Think of the words/imagery used in the poem “Annabel Lee.” The poem touches on several different elements: the sea, love/lovers, angels, the sky and clouds, beauty, envy, demons, and death.

Directions: Choose the most powerful element and create a collage-with only images, NO WORDS- to visually express the element you most connected with in Poe’s poem.

Requirements: On a 8 ½ x 11 sheet of paper and no words.

2. Pick a Poem

Poe once said, “The death of a beautiful woman is, unquestionably, the most poetical topic in the world.”

Directions:

1. Choose a poem about either love (of a beautiful man or a beautiful women) or about death (which ever you believe is the “most poetical topic in the world.”

2. Type a one-paged, MLA formatted analysis of your poem. Describe what it means and why you were drawn to it.

3. Memorize and recite your poem to the class on Thursday April 1, 2010 for extra credit.
