2014 One Great Hour of Sharing Worship Resources

Hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been

poured into our hearts. (Rom. 5:5)

Call to Worship

Give thanks to the Lord, who is good.

God’s steadfast love endures forever!

The Lord is our strength and might.

God has become our salvation.

The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

This is the Lord’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.

Give thanks to the Lord, who is good.

God’s steadfast love endures forever!

Based on Ps. 118

Opening Prayer

After pouring water into the baptismal font:

God our hope, our strength, our joy—pour out your love into our hearts by the gift of your Holy Spirit. Fill us with your goodness and grace so that we may worship you today, serve you each day of our lives, and glorify your name forever; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

At the baptismal font:

This is the proof of God’s great love: that while we were sinners, Christ died for us.

Trusting in God’s grace, let us confess our sin.

Passion/Palm Sunday Resurrection of the Lord

God of great mercy, we confess Living God, we confess

that we have sinned against you. that we look for the living among the dead.

First we greet you with praise, You send Jesus on ahead of us,

then we abandon you in peril. but we stay behind, studying the tomb.

First we welcome you with songs, You reveal to us your heavenly glory,

then we forsake you in suffering. but we set our minds on earthly things.

Forgive us, by your steadfast love. Forgive us; give us new life!

Create a clean heart within us, Send us forth to share the gospel,

teach us your holy way, with our words and deeds proclaiming

and restore the joy of salvation; the life that death cannot destroy;

through Jesus Christ our Lord. through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Declaration of Forgiveness

Lifting water from the baptismal font:

If your hope is in the Lord Jesus Christ, hope will not disappoint you, for God’s love has been poured into your heart by the gift of the Holy Spirit.

This is the good news we have received: in Jesus Christ, we are forgiven. Amen.

Litany of Dedication

We know the pain and suffering of this world that God so loves: disaster, hunger, and poverty

in this and every land, and yet we have hope . . .

With God as our help, hope will not disappoint us.

We see the awful devastation of typhoon and hurricane, earthquake and tornado, famine, fire, and flood, and yet we have hope . . .

With God as our help, hope will not disappoint us.

We feel the aching hunger of those who struggle each day for food enough to sustain themselves and their families, and yet we have hope . . .

With God as our help, hope will not disappoint us.

We hear the anguished cries of people who are poor, stuck in systems of injustice, outcast and oppressed, and yet we have hope . . .

With God as our help, hope will not disappoint us.

Our hope is in the love of God which has been poured into our hearts by the gift of the Holy Spirit.

In gratitude for this great love our hearts overflow with compassion.

Therefore we offer these gifts in the service of the one who is our hope in life and death and our help in every trouble: Jesus Christ the Lord.

With God as our help, hope will not disappoint us.

Invitation to the Lord’s Table

Sisters and brothers, we are witnesses to everything that God has done in Jesus Christ—how he was put to death on a cross but rose to new life on the third day to eat and drink with us after he rose from the dead.

This is the Lord’s table.

Jesus invites us to share this feast of grace.

Prayer after Communion

Gracious and generous God, as you have poured out your love for us in this feast of grace, lead us, by your Holy Spirit, to pour out our lives for others, to the glory of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Blessing

The love of God, the life of Christ, and the gifts of the Spirit be with you all. Alleluia!

Charge

Those who live in the hope of Christ’s resurrection will not be disappointed. In that hope go forth to love and serve the Lord. Amen.
