[Pages:1]The Most Important Qualities of an Outstanding Educator

In order to be recognized as an outstanding educator, one must possess qualities such as knowledge, management, flexibility, and enthusiasm.

Knowledge of content, students, and environment are essential while leading a classroom. I believe an educator should retain more information than needed on any topic instructed to be prepared for the delivery of each lesson. As the information is studied more closely, the educator will develop more than one way to transfer the knowledge to the students increasing the comprehension of each lesson. The students will be able to understand the material in ways that make sense to their learning styles. In order to know the different learning styles of the classroom, an educator must hold knowledge on each student. It is important to know students' modes of thinking and learning and interests to create objectives and lessons to best fit their needs. It is imperative for the instructor to have knowledge on the surrounding environment. There may be outside factors that will affect the student's learning inside the classroom. It is professional to obtain information on the district and school building including rules and regulations that must be followed. Knowledge on many aspects is an important quality of an educator.

Management is another exceptional quality of an outstanding educator. A well managed classroom creates a safe and comfortable learning environment for all students. The students know what is expected of them each day in the classroom. A specific schedule is established in the beginning of the school year to introduce consistency to the everyday routine. The rules of the classroom are created with help of the students to ensure they will be followed. They will be hung on the wall as a reminder of appropriate behavior. When classroom management techniques are used, lessons will be effective because the educator will be in control. Efficient management will provide each classroom with success in many areas.

The third quality of an outstanding educator is flexibility. As a professional it is necessary to work with the students, colleagues, principals, and administrators of the school community. If something were to happen unexpectedly it is important to deal with the issues rationally in order to keep the management of the classroom. As an educator it is essential to plan ahead when possible but be able to think on your feet in unpredictable situations. It is important to work with your students during each lesson. Sometimes students will understand the material quickly and are ready to move on to the next topic. Other times students need more attention and instruction in certain areas that require more time than expected. Every class of students is different and every student is different that is why flexibility is an important quality of an outstanding educator.

The final quality that makes an outstanding educator is enthusiasm. With being an educator comes the part of a role model. Students look to their teachers for guidance and examples for how to succeed in their everyday lives. If the students do not see the educator enthused about school, lessons, topics, or life they may begin to feel the same way. In order for learning to be successful the students must be excited about learning the content. The classroom will be a positive environment if the surrounding attitudes are happy, excited, and enthusiastic. Every student wishes for the one teacher who shows enthusiasm in the work and makes learning fun. When an educator holds enthusiasm it shows the motivation in making a difference in the lives of the children.

There are many different qualities that educators possess. These are the four that are most important to me, as a professional educator. Knowledge of content and students, management structures and strategies, flexibility with schedules and lessons, and showing enthusiasm everyday are qualities of an outstanding educator. These qualities will promote a learning community and allow the students to work for and achieve the tools needed to succeed in their everyday lives.
