CALLAWAY GOLF PGA JUNIOR SERIES OPENS 11-EVENT

SCHEDULE, JUNE 2; ENTRIES INCLUDE GOLFERS FROM 45 STATES

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Players from 45 states, including all four 2002 Players of the Year, will compete in the eighth annual Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series, which opens an 11-event nationwide schedule, June 2-4, at Bear Trace at Tims Ford in Winchester, Tenn.

Begun in 1996, The Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series has attracted boy and girl golfers representing 50 states, 18 countries, six continents, along with players from Bermuda, Guam, The Mariana and Marshall Islands, and the District of Columbia. The Series provides affordable and competitive playing opportunities for boys and girls between the ages of 13 and 17, and concludes Aug. 11-12, at Webster (N.Y.) Golf Club.

Through this summer’s schedule, the Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series will have visited 36 states and 30 PGA Sections. An average of 20 states have been represented at each event. The Series is organized and conducted by The PGA of America with the support of PGA Professionals.

“The PGA of America is extremely proud of the quality of entrants and the venues that have made up the PGA Junior Series,” said PGA of America President M.G. Orender. “The PGA Junior Series provides a wonderful affordable opportunity for boys and girls to compete against their peers at some of the finest facilities in the country. In addition to quality venues and the support of Callaway Golf and our PGA Sections nationwide, the Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series also has been a pathway for many contestants to college or university golf careers. This program is part of The PGA’s ongoing mission to grow participation in the game of golf.”

Returning Callaway Golf PGA Junior Series Players of the Year are: Joe Wieser, 17, of Las Vegas, Nev., Marc Gladson, 16, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Sara Brown, 17, of Tucson, Ariz., and Emily Powers, 15, of Quincy, Ill. In addition, Adam Porzak, 16, of Poway, Calif., who posted a Series record 64 a year ago, returns in his bid to win a Series-best fifth event.
