Scope and Content: Jack Gunn was a United States reconnaissance pilot during World War II. This collection contains his military orders, photos of soldiers, both U.S. and Asian, military publications of magazines and newspapers and survival guides and cadet handbook and also personal correspondence from his family. Also included in the collection are Gunn’s uniform, dogtags, soft helmet, pilot identification card and miscellaneous items, and a scrapbook that dates from 1967 – 1996.

Another portion of this collection is personal correspondence from Texas General Ben McColloch dating back to 1851. Yet another portion was collected during the latter part of the 1970’s during the time Jack Gunn was Chairman of the Bolivar County Historical Society. There are several books from the Historical Society with information about Bolivar County cemeteries, as well as, the origins of the Town of Duncan, the Shelby Library and the Burris Family from Benoit. There is also a book that recreates the Burris Family plantation life in 1863.

Yet another part of this collection are photographs from the E.H. Brown family (includes obituary clipping) and C.H. Brown family (includes obituary clipping), and the E.L. Holt family (includes obituary clippings) and the J.A. Wofford Family. Margaret Ellen Holt married Jack Gunn.
