Trip Planning Checklists Assignment - Mr. Neuendorff

Trip Planning Checklists Assignment

Rationale – In any outdoor pursuit, especially multi-day trips good planning and preparation are the two most important pro-active measures you can take to maximize your enjoyment and safety while on your excursion. Packing properly (the right type and amount of gear) is a huge part in the planning and preparation aspect of any trip. Not enough stuff and your safety and comfort will be compromised. Too much equipment and you will be physically broken down and look like “The Hunchback.” To ensure this doesn’t happen we will be creating two tangible, reusable checklists for future trips.

Instructions - Create two separate packing checklists. Both are for 3day/3 night hiking trips in moderate to fair weather (our spring time). One will be an individual list, and the second will be a group list. Ideas, items and rationale will be discussed for certain clothing and equipment however you have the final say as to what is on your list.

Details –1. Each checklist must fit on one page.

2. Each checklist must be formatted so that it can be reused

3. Each checklist must have a title and subcategories (clothing, hygiene etc)

4. Items on the checklist must be given a quantity and a description.

5. Consideration will be given to visual clarity, professionalism and usefulness of checklists.

6. Assignment must be typed, include your name and the name of the course.

7. Use the information that we discussed in class, as well as any other backpacking, hiking literature to make your list.

8. When possible be specific to your closet/house/borrow/buy. (eg - black MEC rainsuit)

Due – This assignment is due on Monday, May 6th.
