Risks Associated with Anastrozole

Frequent (Between a 10-50% chance that this will happen)

• Abnormal sweating

• Sudden reddening of the face and/or neck

• Hot flashes

• Pain

Occasional (Between a 1-10% chance that this will happen)

• Loss of appetite and weight loss

• Difficulty passing stool

• Skin irritation, rash

• Diarrhea, which is frequent, loose watery stools, which can cause dehydration and may require hospitalization and treatment with intravenous fluids. Severe and prolonged diarrhea can be life-threatening.

• Dizziness

• Heartburn

• Build up of fluid in the body or extremities causing swelling.

• Feeling tired, tiredness, weakness.

• Headache

• High blood pressure

• Difficulty sleeping or falling asleep; unable to sleep

• Liver damage which can cause fatigue, and jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes). Although this is usually mild and reversible, this can be serious or life threatening and may require hospitalization and surgery.

• Feeling sick to the stomach, vomiting

• Bone disorder characterized by loss of bone leading to increased risk of fracture

• Depression

• Severe skin rash with blisters and can involve inside of the mouth and other parts of the body

• Swelling of the liver which may cause stomach pain

• Hair thinning

Rare (Less than a 1% chance that this will happen)

• Serious, potentially life threatening allergic reaction

• Blood clots can form leading to swelling in the arms and legs. These clots can travel to the lungs causing shortness of breath or to the brain causing a stroke. This may be serious or life threatening.

• Stroke

• The heart is not able to pump blood properly, which can cause weakness and tiredness, fluid retention, and fluid build-up in the lungs, which can cause shortness of breath.

• Collection of fluid around the lungs in the chest cavity, which can cause shortness of breath and may require treatment.

• Vaginal bleeding
