INTERVENTIONAL PAIN CENTER

Appropriate conditions for “physican to physician” referrals to Interventional Pain Clinic (for the services listed below

• Back and neck pain, including herniated discs, spinal stenosis, tumors

• Pain still persisting after one or multiple back surgeries (so called “Failed Back Surgery Syndrome”)

• Chronic abdominal and Pelvic pain

• Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (also called RSD or Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy)

• Muscle and joint pain

• Disorders of the nervous system including shingles and trigeminal neuralgia

• Cancer pain

• Sickle cell anemia

• Intractable spasticity and pain associated with multiple sclerosis or spinal cord injuries

• Pain associated with vertebral compression fractures due to osteoporosis or tumors

• Work injury

• Facet pain syndrome

• Peripheral neuropathy

• Sacroiliac pain syndrome

• Pain in the joints (knee pain, shoulder pain, elbow pain)

In the near future, services will be expanded to include the management of chronic pain including behavior pain therapies.

Services Offered (beginning 5-1-07)

• Acupuncture

• Cervical, thoracic, lumbar facet blocks and nerve root blocks

• Cervical, thoracic, lumbar epidural injections

• Sacroiliac joint blocks

• Transforaminal nerve blocks

• Destruction of nerves using heat (Radiofrequency denervation)

• Celiac plexus blocks and neurolysis

• Splanchnic nerve blocks and neurolysis

• Intercostal nerve blocks and neurolysis

• Sympathetic blocks (including stellate ganglion blocks, ganglion impar blocks, lumbar sympathetic blocks, superior hypogastric plexus nerve blocks)

• Lumbar discograms to evaluate disc related tear or bulges

• Percutaneous disc procedures like Decompressor®, nucleoplasty

• Percutaneous repair of disc “tears” with the IDET (Intradiscal Electrothermal therapy)

• Spinal cord stimulation

• Intrathecal pumps (baclofen or morphine pumps)

• Spinal Endoscopy and Epiduroscopic Epidural Scar removal

• Repair of vertebral fractures by injection of bone cement (vertebroplasty)

• Epidural Scar tissue removal by the Racz ® procedure

• Other procedures offered include trigger point injections, peripheral nerve blocks (ilioinguinal nerve blocks, femoral nerve blocks etc), knee injections (Synvisc for osteoarthritic knees), piriformis muscle injection, pain pump refills, epidural blood patches for spinal headaches, pulsed radiofrequency procedures
