10.

3 DEFINITIONS

Retain abbreviation and terms that remain after this Section has been edited.

4.

5. Steady-State Voltage Modulation: The uniform cyclical variation of voltage within the operational bandwidth, expressed in Hertz or cycles per second.

4 SUBMITTALS

6. Product Data: Include the following:

11. Data on features, components, accessories ratings, and performance.

12. Thermal damage curve for generator.

13. Time-current characteristic curves for generator protective device.

7. Shop Drawings: Detail equipment assemblies and indicate dimensions, weights, loads, required clearances, method of field assembly, components, and location and size of each field connection.

14. Dimensioned outline plan and elevation drawings of engine-generator set and other components specified.

15. Design Calculations: Signed and sealed by a qualified professional engineer. Calculate requirements for selecting vibration isolators and seismic restraints and for designing vibration isolation bases.

16. Vibration Isolation Base Details: Signed and sealed by a qualified professional engineer. Detail fabrication, including anchorages and attachments to structure and to supported equipment. Include base weights.

17. Wiring Diagrams: Power, signal, and control wiring.

Retain paragraph below if procedures for welder certification are retained in "Quality Assurance" Article.

8.

Retain paragraph and subparagraphs below if required by seismic criteria applicable to Project. Coordinate with Division 16 Section "Seismic Controls for Electrical Work."

9.

18. Basis for Certification: Indicate whether withstand certification is based on actual test of assembled components or on calculation.

Retain one of first two subparagraphs below to define the term "withstand" as it applies to this Project. Definition varies with type of building and occupancy and is critical to valid certification. Second definition is used for essential facilities where equipment must operate immediately after an earthquake. Use the second definition for units serving remote commissaries in areas of high seismic probability.

a.

b. The term "withstand" means "the unit will remain in place without separation of any parts from the device when subjected to the seismic forces specified and the unit will be fully operational after the seismic event."

19. Dimensioned Outline Drawings of Equipment Unit: Identify center of gravity and locate and describe mounting and anchorage provisions.

20. Detailed description of equipment anchorage devices on which the certification is based and their installation requirements.

Coordinate paragraph below with qualification requirements in Division 1 Section "Quality Requirements" and as supplemented in "Quality Assurance" Article.

10.

See Editing Instruction No. 3 in the Evaluations for discussion about prototype-unit testing.

11.

12. Certified Test Reports: For components and accessories that are equivalent, but not identical, to those tested on prototype unit.

Retain first paragraph below for generator sets specified to meet performance requirements and for generator sets serving sensitive loads.

13.

14. Test Reports:

21. Report of factory test on units to be shipped for this Project, showing evidence of compliance with specified requirements.

22. Report of sound generation.

Normally delete subparagraph below. See Evaluations.

23.

Retain subparagraph below if Contractor is responsible for field quality-control testing.

24.

15. Certification of Torsional Vibration Compatibility: Comply with NFPA 110.

16. Operation and Maintenance Data: For packaged engine generators to include in emergency, operation, and maintenance manuals. In addition to items specified in Division 1 Section ‘Phase Turnover and Contract Closeout," include the following:

25. List of tools and replacement items recommended to be stored at the Project for ready access. Include part and drawing numbers, current unit prices, and source of supply.

17. Warranty: Special warranty specified in this Section.

5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

18. Installer Qualifications: Manufacturer's authorized representative who is trained and approved for installation of units required for this Project.

Revise subparagraph below to suit Project location.

26.

Delete subparagraph below if Contractor is not required to assume responsibility for engineering.

27.

19. Manufacturer Qualifications: A qualified manufacturer. Maintain, within [200 miles] of Project site, a service center capable of providing training, parts, and emergency maintenance repairs.

20. Source Limitations: Obtain packaged generator sets and auxiliary components through one source from a single manufacturer.

Retain paragraph below to allow drawing details based on one manufacturer's product to establish requirements and still allow competition. Coordinate with Division 1 requirements.

21.

Retain first paragraph below if welding is required. Delete "and cooling" option if generator does not have remote radiator. Retain "Welding certificates" Paragraph in "Submittals" Article if retaining paragraph.

22.

23. Electrical Components, Devices, and Accessories: Listed and labeled as defined in NFPA 70, Article 100, by a testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction, and marked for intended use.

24. Comply with NFPA 37.

25. Comply with NFPA 70.

Retain paragraph below if generator is automatically started. See Editing Instruction No. 4 in the Evaluations.

26.

Retain paragraph below for state or local compliance. Edit to suit Project.

27.

Retain below for installations with critical noise-abatement requirements, particularly outdoor generator sets. Coordinate with noise-reduction features in the design, including those relating to cooling-air intake and discharge arrangement and muffler specification and its location and orientation as shown on Drawings.

28.

6 COORDINATION

29. Coordinate size and location of concrete bases. Cast anchor-bolt inserts into bases. Concrete, reinforcement, and formwork requirements are specified in Division 3.

7 WARRANTY
