JOB TITLE: Paramedic Program Manager/Nursing Instructor

RESPONSIBLE TO: Campus Nursing Program Director and appointed college administration at the respective college.

JOB SUMMARY: Is responsible for the management, planning, implementation, evaluation and revision of policies and curriculum of the paramedic to nurse bridge program and also participates in the planning, implementation, evaluation and revision of policies and curriculum of the nursing program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Facilitate learning, learner development and socialization in the classroom, laboratory and clinical environments

a. Implements a variety of effective and engaging teaching strategies grounded in educational theory and evidence-based teaching practices.

b. Identifies individual learning styles of students and unique learning needs of diverse students.

c. Provides resources to students to help meet their individual learning needs.

d. Uses information technologies skillfully to support the teaching-learning process (provides timely and effective material on the learning. management system, Interactive video network and other technologies as applicable).

e. Practices skilled communication (oral, written and electronic) with individuals and groups that reflects an awareness of self and others.

f. Shows enthusiasm for nursing and serves as a role model to inspire students.

g. Develops collegial relationships with students, colleagues and clinical staff by demonstrating caring, integrity, interest and respect for others.

h. Creates opportunities for students to develop critical thinking skills and professionalism.

i. Models critical thinking skills and professionalism (professional conduct and civility).

j. Recognizes responsibility for student learning for all students at all sites in the consortium with timely collaboration and communication with students and faculty when instructing a theory course.

k. Maintains current professional practice knowledge needed to facilitate learning.

l. Demonstrates clinical nursing skills accurately.

m. Orientates students to and complies with the procedures and policies of each clinical facility as well as the DNP nursing student handbook.

n. Makes clinical assignments based on the learning needs of students.

o. Provides supervision of students in provision of safe and effective patient care while fostering their cognitive, psychomotor and affective development.

p. Creates a learning environment where students can reflect and set goals while they are socialized to the knowledge, skills and attitudes of a nurse.

2. Use a variety of strategies to assess and evaluate learning in the classroom, laboratory and clinical environments

a. Uses evidence based assessment and evaluation criteria.

b. Advise students regarding how assessment and evaluation criteria are used.

c. Assesses and evaluates learning in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains of learning.

d. Provides constructive and thoughtful feedback to learners in a timely manner.

e. Prepares, administers and analyzes exams following the DNP exam procedure.

f. Assesses clinical practice by skillfully using the grading tools.

g. Completes evaluations of students as required during and at the end of the semester.

h. Keeps records of student’s clinical performance and grades.

3. Participate in curriculum design and evaluation of program outcomes

a. Develops, implements, evaluates and revises the program policies and curriculum using continuous quality improvement.

b. Uses assessment and evaluation data to analyze nursing courses and revise curriculum, books, equipment and other resources.

c. Bases curriculum analysis on educational theory, principles and research.

d. Partners with community and clinical partners to support the goals of the curriculum.

4. Function as a change agent and leader

a. Promotes innovative practices in educational environments.

b. Identify how nurses advocate for nursing and nursing education in the political arena.

c. Develops leadership skills to shape and implement change.

5. Pursue continuous quality improvement to develop and maintain competence in the academic nurse educator role

a. Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning.

b. Seeks out and participates in professional development opportunities that increase effectiveness in the educator role.

c. Seeks out and participates in professional development opportunities that increase effectiveness and maintains nursing skills in the practice areas.

d. Uses information from learner and administrative evaluations to self-reflect and improve effectiveness.

e. If applicable, works as an RN providing health care services.

f. Encouraged to participate in professional organizations.

g. Encouraged to acquire/maintain certification as a nurse educator (CNE).

6. Engage in scholarship

a. Implements evidence based teaching and evaluation practices.

b. Exhibits a spirit of inquiry about all aspects of nurse educator role.

7. Function within the Educational Environment

a. Complies with the home campus faculty job description, policies detailed in the campus faculty handbook and other campus duties as assigned.

a. Participates in, networks within and supports activities of the nursing program, college and community agencies.

b. Contributes to program evaluation by attending and participating in DNP and College faculty meetings.

c. Participates in the development, implementation, evaluation and update of admission, progression, retention and graduation requirements.

d. Participates, as appointed, in college, department and/or agency committees.

e. Participates in academic advisement and guidance of students, including the student nurse organization.

f. Participates in evaluation of clinical facilities.

g. Participates in the selection, monitoring and evaluation of preceptors.

h. Provides input to budget and program needs.

8. Paramedic to Nurse Bridge Program Management

a. Develop and maintain an environment conducive to the teaching and

learning processes.

i. Resources, equipment, technology, physical resources

ii. Clinical contracts, schedules

b. Maintain collaborative relationships with administrative and other units within the academic setting at the respective college and affiliated satellite site to provide seamless paramedic to nurse education.

c. Develop, implement and evaluate the paramedic to nurse bridge program and curriculum with a program evaluation plan and input from nursing administration and the nursing advisory board (collect data, analyze outcomes).

d. Develop and implement a strategic plan and timeline for recruitment, admissions and orientation.

e. Develop and manage the paramedic to nurse program budget.

f. Provide input to paramedic to nurse faculty recruitment, development and performance review.

g. Responsible for student admissions and the maintenance of student, faculty and program records.

EDUCATION/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of a master’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution (may be hired with a BSN if currently enrolled in a graduate program at an accredited institution with a specific plan of completion within four years).

Maintains a current unencumbered North Dakota RN license or privilege to practice.

Maintains ND Department of Career & Technical Education Post-secondary Teaching Credential if fulltime nursing faculty (may obtain after hiring).

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of one year of prior nursing practice experience including emergency

care experience and additional experience in clinical or nursing education

preferred.

PERSONS SUPERVISED:

Students in the Dakota Nursing Program.

Faculty to student clinical experience maximum ratio is 1:8 per the ND BON.
