2. Sue and Johnny are riding on a Ferris wheel at the amusement park. The Ferris wheel has a diameter of 110 feet and is suspended so the bottom of the wheel is 16 feet above the ground. The Ferris wheel turns counterclockwise one revolution every 20 sec.

a. Write a pair of parametric equations to represent the motion of the Ferris wheel.

b. Where are they 53 seconds later (be specific)?

c. Sue’s scarf blows off after 53 seconds with an initial velocity of 21ft/sec at an angle of 24°. Write a pair of parametric equations to model the motion of Sue’s scarf.

d. Where does Sue’s scarf land (be specific)?

3. At a medieval festival, some garbage is thrown from a catapult with an initial velocity of 29ft/s at an angle of 23°. The garbage is 30 in. from the ground when it is released from the catapult.

a. Write a pair of parametric equations to represent this situation.

b. Does the garbage land in a trash can that is 20 feet away and 2 feet high? Prove it algebraically.

4. Two friends, Billy Bob and Bobby Sue, are going to race on their bicycles from Jimmy Roy’s house to Dairy Queen at the beach. The last one there has to buy the winner a Peanut Buster Parfait. Billy Bob is so confident he can win he gives Bobby Sue a fifteen minute head start. Billy Bob peddles at 3mph and Bobby Sue peddles at 2.8mph

a. Write two pairs of parametric equations to represent this situation.

b. If it is 11 miles to the Dairy Queen from Jimmy Roy’s house, who gets the free Peanut Buster Parfait? Prove it algebraically.
