JOB TITLE:

PARAPROFESSIONAL (PREKINDERGARTEN)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

This employee is responsible for assisting the program teacher in the implementation of program's established criteria.

SOLE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE SUPERVISION OF PUPILS SHOULD NOT BE ASSIGNED TO PARAPROFESSIONALS; THEY SHOULD WORK UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A MEMBER OR MEMBERS OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL OR ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF AT ALL TIMES.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to:

1. Assisting the Teacher in:

a. Preparing instructional materials to be used in the program. b. Assisting in arranging the learning environment, including assembling and putting

materials on the bulletin board and arranging center areas. c. Working with assigned children under the teacher's direction. d. Administering and scoring appropriate screenings and assessments required by

the program. e. Performing other duties as assigned or required by the program. f. Working with individual student or small groups as assigned by the teacher. g. Establishing and maintaining high standards of student behavior consistent with

district and school policies. h. Taking all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials,

equipment, and facilities. i. Developing and maintaining a family-style atmosphere during mealtime. j. Supervising the students throughout the day. k. Completing record keeping tasks assigned by the teacher. l. Riding the school bus as needed to monitor and assist with the safe

transportation of assigned children. m. Performing other duties as assigned

2. Participating in Program Inservice Activities.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Ability to work with individuals and small groups of children. 2. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all employees. 3. Ability to prepare and maintain required program records. 4. Ability to assist supervising instructional staff in the preparation and/or organization of materials. 5. Successful completion of the training course required by the Department of Children and Family Services within one year of employment date. 6. High school graduate or equivalent (SACS requirement). 7. Meet all State and Federal requirements for the position, regarding staff qualifications. 8. Initial health examination that includes screening for tuberculosis to assure no significant risk to the health and safety of others.
