Function Family Project - Weebly

Function Family Album Project

Project Overview: In Integrated Math IV, you have studied a variety of parent functions and their translations. For this project, graph the following parent functions using a table of values, and then translate the parent function twice, as specified below. The project is due February 18 and counts as a unit test grade.

I. Graph the following functions:

|Name of Function |Parent Function |Translated Function |Translated Function |

|Quadratic |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |

|Absolute value |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |

|Cubic |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |

|Square Root |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |

|Exponential |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |

|Inverse Variation |[pic] |[pic] |[pic] |

II. Graph each parent function on a separate sheet of graph paper. Put the title of the function on each sheet of graph paper. On the same piece of graph paper, for the parent function, include a table of values, domain and range (in interval notation), and asymptote, if applicable. Make sure you graph all parent functions in the same color.

III. Use the 1st translated column and choose values for h and k. Using a different color than the parent function, graph it on the same graph as the parent function. Use arrows to clearly define where and how the graph moved. Using the color you choose for this graph, write the equation for the translated function, domain, range, and asymptote if applicable. Show all work on a separate sheet of paper, if applicable.

IV. Use the 2nd translated column and choose different values for h and k. Using a different color than the two previous colors, graph it on the same graph. Use arrows to clearly define where and how the graph moved. Keeping in this color scheme, write the equation, domain, range, and asymptote if applicable. Show all work on a separate sheet of paper, if applicable.

V. Display your graphs neatly in a “family album.” Make sure you include a cover page with a title, your name, class, and class period. You can put all your pages in a report cover, or tie the pages together with ribbon, etc. (Have fun with it – make it colorful and creative!)

VI. Prior to turning in the project, you and one parent/guardian must grade the project by the rubric. You and your parent must sign the graded rubric, then include the rubric for Ms. Lim to grade. The project is due February 18 and I will deduct 10 points a day for late projects. The project counts as a Unit Test grade.
