(Ms. Morsch reserves the right to skip ahead to more severe consequences depending on the severity of the disruption.)

Restroom/Locker Policy

Student will be given one free restroom/locker pass each quarter. Students who need to leave the classroom more than one time will be required to spend 10 minutes after school in Room 133. During this time, students will be allowed to work on homework. If the student fails to serve the 10 minutes by the end of the week, the student’s name will be submitted for a detention.

Grades and Extra Credit

Students’ progress toward mastery of skills will be assessed using a variety of methods. Students will complete lab investigations, inquiry activities, problem sets and design challenges. Each assessment will incorporate one or more of our classroom mastery goals of improving content, scientific reasoning, lab, and writing skills. The following weights will be given to each section:

|Category |Weight |

|Homework/Classwork Quizzes | 15% |

|Unit Exams | 30% |

|Content Quests | 20% |

|Lab Quests/Lab Work | 20% |

|Semester Exam | 15% |

| |100% |

|69-60 |D |

|59 and below |F |

Extra credit opportunities will be given occassionally. Take advantage of it when it is offered.

Quest Retake Policy

Students may retake quests for up to 100%. This does not include lab quests since the student was already allowed to use their lab notebook on the quest. In order to retake a quest:

- Attend one full hour of Science HWC on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. The Science HWC teacher must sign and date your old quest.

- Retake your quest during HWC on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday or Friday. You must bring your old quest with you that has been signed by a teacher or you will not be allowed to retake the quest.

Note: You may not complete your hour and retake the quest in the same day. You always receive your retake score (even if it is lower).

GWCP Late Work Policy

It is expected that Westinghouse College Prep students turn in all assignments on time, completed in their entirety and of the highest quality. Assignments not completed by the due date are automatically late and will only be worth a maximum of fifty percent of its original value. The one exception is if you have an excused absence. You may turn your work in at the beginning of the period on the day you return to school. Teachers will not accept late work after it has been graded and/or reviewed in class. If you miss a class for other than an excused absence (i.e. class cut), any work (including quizzes, exams and major projects) due that day will not be accepted. You will automatically receive a zero on those assignments.

Homework Quizzes

No classwork or homework will be collected. In order to earn the points for the classwork/homework, the student will take a ‘Homework Quiz’ at the beginning of every class period. The student may use their homework or classwork on the quiz; however, they may not use their textbook.

Absences

If a student misses a quest or exam, the student must take the exam before or after school on the day in which they return.

If a student misses a lab, the student must make arrangments with Ms. Morsch to make up the lab the SAME WEEK. Ms. Morsch will decide on the day and time.

If a student misses a homework quiz, the student must show the completed assignment for Ms. Morsch to sign off on the homework quiz paper. Note: A paritially complete assignment will only earn partial credit.

Getting Help

Ms. Morsch will be available from 7:15-7:45am and 3:15-4:00pm most days to help students with course material. Please sign up in Room 133 if you plan on asking Ms. Morsch for help on a certain day. I will also answer questions via email until 8:00pm.

Sending Emails

All emails sent to teachers should be professional. Make sure to write a salutation (Dear Ms. Morsch, ), use correct grammar and punctuation, be polite, and end the email with a Closing and your full name (Thanks, Justice Johnson). Please use the following email I received last year as an example:

Ms. Morsch,

You have me down as missing for " Ionic Bonding Practice (Small Slip of Paper)" .

I turned that into you the next day because I was absent on the day you assigned it.

If you could please look into that, it would be highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tania Martinez, 8th Period

Note: Ms. Morsch reserves the right to change any part of this syllabus at any point in the year if circumstances warrant.
