Applications

Parents have the option to submit magnet applications with a quick and easy online application process. The

application process may be completed using a personal computer, smart phone or tablet device.

SIMPLE ONLINE APPLICATION EXPERIENCE

The Application component features a multi-step application, which is accessible through a web-based user

portal. Applicants utilize a single sign-on account to submit multiple applications for one or more children within a

household in an easy and efficient process.

This application collects basic information, including student information, household and guardian information as

well as program-specific required information. Applications can also collect unique program assets, such as

teacher recommendations, audition information and more.

CURRENT MDCPS PARENTS

Parents who currently have a parent portal account and the student they wish to apply for is currently enrolled in a

MDCPS school, they will access the application system by logging into their Parent Portal account.

Upon reaching the Smart Choice system from the MDCPS parent portal link, parents will be prompted to provide

additional information to complete their parent account.

Once their account has been completed, parents will see the students they have access to apply for on their

parent dashboard.

SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION FOR AN EXISTING STUDENT

Parents can begin an application for one of their existing students by clicking on the blue button with the student¡¯s

name in question on your parent dashboard. Clicking on the ¡°Continue with Student Information¡± button at the

bottom of the screen will take them into the application for the student selected.

For existing students, most of the basic student information will be pre-populated with their child¡¯s details. Upon

completing any missing fields, parents have the option to continue to the next step of the application or save the

application to be completed at another time. If they opt to save and exit the application, they may finish it later by

simply logging into their dashboard with the email and password that they have created in the first step. Please

note that incomplete applications will not be considered for entry into the random selection process.

They will continue through all steps of the application as detailed in the Online Application Process section of this

manual.

SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION FOR A NEW STUDENT

From the parent dashboard, they will see a blue link for ¡°Start a new application for another student.¡± Upon

clicking this link you will be prompted to start an application for a new student who is not currently enrolled in

MDCPS. Parents will continue through all steps of the application as detailed in the Online Application Process

section of this manual.
