Families of Weapons Training Bn:

For all those families with school-age children, I know how excited you must be that your kids are back to school.

Your Marines have been performing exceptionally well and I see every day how much of a contribution they make towards the marksmanship readiness of all Marines and Sailors assigned to Camp Lejeune. Whether it’s blazing hot outside, or pouring rain, your Marines are out there making a difference. I realize they would not be completely focused unless things at home are going smoothly, and for that I thank you. Your unconditional devotion and support of your Marine allows him or her to come to work and get the job done.

I have not had the opportunity to meet many of the spouses, so I certainly hope you come join us for a couple of events that Mo has been advertising. One is the Harvest Festival on 3 Nov and the other is our Marine Corps Birthday Ball on 20 Nov. Hopefully, you will have the time to attend; I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

Semper Fidelis,

LtCol Carlos Vallejo

Well, here we are already looking forward to the Marine Corps Ball and upcoming holidays. This past quarter has simply flown by and we are all looking forward to cooler weather as we watch the leaves turn colors as the temperature becomes a bit more tolerable. Several positive things have happened that are worthy of making mention of. First, there were a couple of promotions that were earned and they were LCpl Franklin, Cpl Martinez and Cpl Shain. Congrats to each of you and a job well done! Another awesome event was the Bronze Star recently presented to Captain Kosnik for his combat actions as a Company Commander of Echo Company, Second Battalion, Sixth Marines in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

I would simply be remiss if I didn’t mention the new additions to the Weapons Training Battalion H&S Team. The new babies born were: LCpl Skinner’s baby, Braylee, who was born August 16th., Lt Sanchez’s new little girl, Skylar, who was born August 7th, Sgt Gonzalez’s new little boy, Ian, born Sept 28th and Doc Tomlinson’s new little boy, Brett, born July 28th of this year. Congratulations to each of you and your new addition to your families!

As we knock out the rest of the year, let us remember the upcoming elections and keep our country in prayer. In these tumultuous economic times, we can’t forget who we are and where we come from. I know that you are already doing this by the support that you have demonstrated as you allow your Marine to serve this unit and our beloved country. As the company commander, I want to personally extend to you a debt of gratitude as you support your Marine. I have been honored to serve alongside each of them and count myself fortunate to do so. I recognize that they are simply not effective without the support of their family at home. This requires your undying patience and understanding as they oftentimes have to do abnormal jobs for abnormal hours of the day. It is the families that don’t get recognized enough, the families that don’t get awards, commendations, write-ups or enough recognition. Well, I salute you for the sacrifices you have made in sharing your Marine. Meanwhile, I hope that you have a great Columbus Holiday and take the much deserved time to spend with your loved one as family is the only thing that truly lasts in the end.

Despite the long, gut wrenchingly hot, shooter filled summer days, Range Company has successfully completed another summer of over a quarter of a million rounds sent safely down range and qualified well over ten thousand Marines and Sailors. I am impressed everyday as to how our young Marines are able to execute the same monotonous Ground Hog’s Day and do so with smiles on their faces and high spirits on the firing lines. As we begin the new fiscal year we have seen some great Marines leave our sides moving on to bigger and better things and we happily welcome with open arms some of our newest additions to the Range Company family like Capt Vandenende, 1stLt Fisher, CWO2 Hudson, SSgt Simpson, Cpl Rush, and Cpl Betsworth. As the days have cooled the hours of daylight have gone down and we now face a new challenge of shortened work days and lower temperatures. This emerging challenge also indicates the approaching holidays which means more time for families and celebrations to include our beloved Marine Corps’ 237th Anniversary. Please take advantage of this time to celebrate as much as possible with your beloved Marines and make sure to do so safely. Happy Holidays and a Happy 237th Birthday to all our Marines, spouses, children and loved ones.

Semper Fidelis,

Capt Daniel V Mora

Family Readiness Officer

Families of Weapons Training Battalion,

The battalion is actively recruiting for a Family Readiness Command Team advisor and for Family Readiness assistants. If you are interested please contact me, and I will be glad to send you all the information. The time commitment is not as extensive

There are a lot of great resources highlighted in this newsletter. I encourage you to utilize as many as apply to you.

There will be on-site childcare at the Marine Corps Birthday Ball. As of this publishing, prices have not been set, but as soon as I know the details I will pass them along. If you already know that you want to use childcare at the Ball venue, please contact me ASAP with the number of children you will need care for. The sooner we have numbers in to the Ball committee, the sooner the childcare givers can be contracted.

As always, if you have any questions, comments or concerns please contact me.

Respectfully,

Maureen Pruitt

GySgt Parker

Greetings Families and Friends of Weapons Training Battalion,

The last few months have been busy and fluid. The Operations and Training section has said goodbye to MSgt Erickson as he departed the Battalion and moved on to 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines. I have also joined the Battalion as the Operations Officer. GySgt Parker has moved up from Range Company to take over for MSgt Erickson. With all of these changes we continue to ensure the Battalion is running smoothly and efficiently.

As September comes to a close we are finishing the final week of fiscal year 2012 and preparing for the next year of rifle qualifications. We have had several units come through that are preparing to deploy on short notice. As usual the Marines and Sailors of Weapons Training Battalion worked very hard to ensure these units were supported and prepared to deploy.

The last week we held a symposium for all units that fire on our ranges. We discussed several topics in an effort to provide feedback to the units we serve and improve the training we conduct on our ranges. The symposium was a success with Marines from most of the major commands that use our ranges attending.

In closing I look forward to serving with the Marines and Sailors of Weapons Training Battalion and hope the Marines enjoy the coming months with their families and friends.

Very Respectfully,

Captain Steven Kosnik
