Abbotsford Christian School

2733675581025Grade one is such an exciting time for all of us! It’s a giant step from Kindergarten into their first grade of all the exciting things we experience and learn at school. Together, we’ll discover many things about ourselves, each other and the way that God created each of us to be His precious children. God has created such an amazing world and we will keep our senses wide open to experience the richness around us.The first things we will explore are through a theme called “Me and My Healthy Body”. We will discover and share things about ourselves and our classmates, like how we are unique, have gifts, and how we appreciate each other as God’s children. We will learn how to be community builders and image-reflectors, actively demonstrating our response to Christ’s call to be co-workers and to pursue and build communal shalom. I am very excited to be teaching your child this year! Children really know how to warm up my heart—the way they view the world with such fascination and curiosity. God has blessed me with this awesome community! Please go through the grade one handbook, and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. I am looking forward to getting to know all of you! 00Grade one is such an exciting time for all of us! Please ask your child how washroom time is going and let me know if there’s an issue. We insist on hand washing before snack and lunch. I instruct the students to take home anything they don’t eat so you can check on what is being eaten. Also, I encourage the children to eat only the food they pack and not to trade or give away food. Please let me know of any allergies in case we receive treats from students for the whole class. Please help your child to know what to eat first, what is snack, how to open things, how to eat quickly without talking or chewing with mouths open; all those things we practice at school during lunch. We allow 15 minutes for snack (9:45-10:00) and another 20 minutes for lunch (12:25-12:45). There are great websites that give lunch ideas, or check out our ACS pinterest board called bag lunches—a yummy lunch is an eaten lunch. 00Snacks and LunchesSnack time is very important in the Grade one day. We’ll celebrate in our classroom by making a special book for the birthday child. As a staff, we have been discussing the growing trend of families who engage in healthy, nutritional eating. Also, we have a few students with allergies so I would encourage you to please only treat us with healthy snacks, if you want to treat the class for your child’s birthday. If you choose to have birthday party for your child, you could have whatever treats you like then. The gym is a wonderful place to have an after school party and include a lot of kids. If you do invite all the boys or all the girls, I’ll be happy to help hand out invitations (which will go directly into the home folders). If you are only inviting a few friends, please keep the invitations and party information quiet so no feelings are hurt (telephone calls work best). 00BirthdaysBirthdays are a wonderful time!
