OCTOBER EVENTS

[pic]

A list of 50 ways you can show your pastor that you appreciate his efforts is attached to the newsletter.

Our pastors have worked in trying conditions since the Pandemic began –

let’s remember to thank them for their continuing care and obedience to God’s call!

An opportunity to “Bless Your Pastor” was shared with Deacon Chairs and Church Treasurers in August.

That opportunity has no time limit and is provided by the National Association of Evangelicals.

BGAV’s Middle School Retreat that traditionally occurs in-person each October has been CANCELLED this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have your own youth gathering wit the benefit of FREE Ignite resources!

Theme: Reimagined – Ephesians 5:1-2.

2020 has been filled with moments of uncertainty and change. These moments presented an opportunity for Christians to reimagine what church, worship, and mission looks like in the present and moving forward. Despite having time apart from each other physically and from our church buildings, the church is active and God’s movement is evident. Yes, things have changed, but God is and will always be the same! The root word of “imagine” is “image.” This year, we will look at what it means to be created in the image of God. As image bearers, how do we reflect our creator? How do we walk in this world with love and share God’s love with others. Pastors and Youth Leaders should have received emails containing downloadable resources to use with your youth group to “ignite” the Spirit in your own community this fall.

Go to for graphics for digital and print use as well as shirt designs.

November 2 WORLD DAY OF PRAYER

The first Monday of every November is the Baptist Women's World Day of Prayer. The Day of Prayer program is translated into well over 80 languages so thousands, upon thousands, upon thousands of Baptist women gather to pray for each other on that special day. It is called DAY of Prayer because literally as the world turns, women are praying from the eastern hemisphere all the way around to the west. We are linking arms, standing in solidarity with each other on that special day. The theme is Life! Standing Together, Unified Amidst Our Beautiful Diversity!

[pic]

A MESSAGE FROM THE BGAV PRESIDENT

Grace to you and peace through our Lord Jesus Christ!

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had, so that with one mind and one voice you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 15:5-6

I don’t know about you, but I’m just about tired out from adjusting life to COVID-19! The restrictions on getting together with friends, the requirements for mask-wearing, the limitations on gathering together as a church, the extra vigilance required in personal sanitization and disinfection – all of these lost their novelty for me weeks ago. Have they for you? Yet we must continue to practice personal distancing, wear masks, use sanitizer, and observe limits on our activities for a very simple reason: it’s the best way to protect not just ourselves, but others. And so we continue to wear our masks, we continue to squirt hand sanitizer, we continue to be aware of distances when out in public, and of course, at church we continue to limit our activities.

For us Christians, we have an additional reason to do all of these things beyond just the fact that there are mandates from the state and there are guidelines from public health officials. We also have a deep desire – even a necessity – to show love for one another. It’s part of what Jesus considered to be the Greatest Comomandment, and it is reinterated by other writers in the New Testament. We love one another because doing so reflects the love of Christ.

That sort of love requires something of us, however: endurance. It’s easy to love someone for a moment, or even a few moments. It’s hard to love them over the long haul. To do so, we need God’s help – and that means God’s endurance. He give us the strength and sustenance to continue loving, day-in and day-out.

In these COVID days, may we endure in love.

Be well, friends!

In Christ,

Adam Tyler
