SparksDate: 10.2018Department: Volunteer Services HR Approval: nnlDate: 10.2018JOB SUMMARYThe Volunteer Services Manager serves as the UW Health official spokesperson on volunteerism and volunteer programs and is responsible for providing the highest possible level of service to UW Health patients and families through volunteer utilization. This position develops, maintains and supervises all volunteer programs and approximately 900 volunteers. This includes volunteer recruitment, retention, development and recognition activities. A variety of internal and external contacts are necessary to effectively perform the duties of this position. Contacts include: all levels of inpatient and ambulatory staff including volunteer area supervisors, UW Health Public Affairs, Spiritual Care Services, Patient Relations and Human Resources; volunteers; vendors; United Way of Dane County Volunteer Center; the business community and staff of local colleges and University of Wisconsin.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES Direct the operations, program development, financial and personnel activities of the Volunteer Services Department. Act as the principal liaison between hospital department managers and volunteers regarding performance, promotion, assignment and resignation of volunteers. Responsible for screening and evaluating volunteers to ensure appropriate placement and satisfaction.Ensure that all volunteers receive general orientation; safety, infection control and HIPAA training, health screening, criminal background checks and name badge and other training as necessary at the time they begin to volunteer. Develop and implement new, creative/innovative volunteer programs and activities to assist staff, patients and visitors. Develop and monitor the Volunteer Office budget together with a list of specific goals and objectives each fiscal year. Evaluate all volunteer programs to assure that they reflect the current needs of the hospital and the most effective use of volunteers. This is accomplished via in-service meetings and periodic volunteer/staff surveys. Develop and maintain current volunteer assignment descriptions with the assistance of appropriate hospital staff and key volunteers. Develop and maintain departmental policies and procedures for Volunteer Services. Maintain a high level of visibility and communicate volunteer activities to staff, patients and visitors and to community groups. Solicit feedback/satisfaction levels of UW Health staff with volunteer program annually. Implement changes to enhance level of service provided. PreferredMaster's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Social Work or other health related fieldWork ExperienceMinimum Five (5) years’ experience working in healthcare environment Two (2) years' experience in volunteer activities and/or developing and sustaining programsPreferredThree (3) years of experience managing volunteer activities in a health care environment.
