POSITION DESCRIPTION

Employee Relations Representative Director of Employee Resources Employee Relations Exempt

Job Summary: Plan, organize, and respond to daily employee, labor relations and policy related concerns and serve as contact point for Union and Non-union issues. Increase awareness of diversity among staff and increase awareness of the District's diversity within the community.

Essential Functions: Serve as central contact for employee related complaints. Investigates and reports findings to District decision-makers regarding discrimination claims, sexual harassment, and Union contract grievances. Maintain positive labor relations.

In conjunction with the Legal Department interprets and evaluates employment law, District policies, and Union contract agreement in order to maintain the organization's labor relations.

Discuss and provide information about labor relations problems or issues. Interview formally to establish facts about a case or issue and use this information to prepare spoken and written clarification.

Counsel and give advice to management and employees on disciplinary procedures and reviews discipline issues (incident reports, drug testing, sexual harassment, etc.).

Motivate supervisors and managers to understand the personal needs and motives of employees in order to ensure consistent, equal, and fair treatment that leads to good team spirit.

Investigates to establish information for proof, validation or evidence of employee claims, disputes, or arguments. Investigate cases and occurrences of alleged disputes in employee relations matters.

Serve as a mediator, counselor, and facilitator in resolving disputes between employees and their supervisors and managers. Cultivate open lines of communication to bring parties to agreement.

Analyze and diagnose written and numerical information in order to identify patters or trends in employee relations issues.

Compile facts and data regarding incident reports and filed cases. Document telephone conversations, witness statements, investigation results, and prepare written summaries. Write articles for newsletters or handbook regarding issues of diversity and employee relations as needed.

Assist Legal Department in preparation of position statements by providing relative information and documentation.

Represent the District's values of diversity and affirmative action in all interfaces and activities in the community and with the general public.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education:

Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and

experience in Employee Relations or a related field and documented

substantial continuing education credits.

Experience:

At least five (5) years job related work experience dealing with

diverse populations in the workplace.

Specific Skills: None.

Specialized Knowledge, Licenses, etc:

None.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Working Conditions: General office environment with occasional visits to the plants.

Physical Demands: Sitting, standing, and walking activities normal to an office position.

Interfaces: Internal: External:

Typical interface with other District employees. Interfaces with Union representatives, attorneys, occasional interface with public sector Human Resource personnel.
