The instructor will give copies of the quiz only to those students who have a textbook, an electronic copy of the textbook, or a photocopy of the assigned essay. Students cannot borrow another student’s textbook or photocopy after that student has completed the quiz.Even though students may use their textbooks during the quiz, they must prepare for it before the beginning of the next class. Otherwise, they may discover that they cannot answer all of the quiz items in the allotted time. The quiz has three items, each one calling for a brief response in the form of at least one complete sentence.Points to Guide Studying:Read the essay “Ground Zero” on pages 182-184. In fact, read it more than once, and annotate it. For example, underline topic sentences and identify sections relying on objective as opposed to subjective descriptions. Additionally, determine the dominant impression that forms the basis of the essay.Review pages 151-161, especially the section about the organization of details.Learn the definition of the word “periphery” so that you can correctly answer two of the quiz responses.Practice with the Word “Periphery”:This picture shows Central Park in New York City. The buildings appear on the periphery of the park, whereas the trees appear within the park. There is a clearing (a baseball diamond perhaps) that appears in the center of the area of the park shown in the picture. This picture shows the interior of the Colosseum in Rome, Italy. The outer wall appears on the periphery of the interior, but the area where the gladiators once fought (the oval) appears in the center of the interior. ................
