2020 SUMMER STUDY ABROAD FINANCIAL AID TERMS & CONDITIONS

Study Abroad

Students who are on study abroad are required to have final transcripts sent back to UTK within 180 days of the completion of the Summer semester. Aid for future semesters will be placed on hold until the transcripts have been received and evaluated.

Excess financial aid disbursements for Summer will begin no sooner than June 1, 2020. We are unable to disburse excess aid prior to this date.

All financial aid resources received from the University of Tennessee should be used to pay charges associated with studying abroad.

Aid will be based on the enrollment hours submitted on this form. If Host institution transcript hours differ from anticipated enrollment hours reported, you may be required to repay aid received.

Full-time enrollment in the Summer is considered 12 credit hours for undergraduate students and 9 hours for graduate students. The number of credit hours from all sessions is combined to determine your enrollment status.

You must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours (3 credit hours for law students; 5 credit hours for graduate nursing students) to receive most forms of financial aid.

Any change in enrollment status can affect your aid for Summer. If you decide not to attend the Summer term after you have been awarded, email OneStop@utk.edu from your UT

email address to cancel your Summer aid.

Award Information

Funds for Summer financial aid are limited and will vary from year to year. Financial aid received during the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters will affect your eligibility for Summer

financial aid. All awards are subject to change pending the availability of federal, state, and institutional funding and regulatory

verification. Students enrolled for Summer are automatically reviewed for Pell Grant and HOPE Scholarship eligibility. If you do not indicate a certain amount of loan funding, you will be awarded the maximum you are eligible to

receive for the semester. Excess aid will not be disbursed prior to June 1, 2020.

Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements

You must be in compliance with the standards of the Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy and meet the specific program eligibility requirements to receive summer financial aid.

Verification Requirements

Aid will not be disbursed to students selected for Verification until all document requirements are satisfied.

How we award Summer aid

If you are studying abroad through a UTK faculty-directed program, you do not need to complete this form. Once you register for courses through MyUTK, your financial aid eligibility will be determined and you will receive an award email. For loans to apply toward your Summer bill, you must accept them online through MyUTK.

If you are studying abroad through a third party, you must ensure you have completed all necessary steps through the Programs Abroad Office. Once you have completed this form and have been officially confirmed by the Registrar as a third party study abroad student, your financial aid eligibility will be determined and you will receive an award email. For loans to apply toward your Summer bill, you must accept them online through MyUTK.

Important Information You must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours to be eligible for financial aid. Direct Loans are only available for Summer if you are enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and you have not already borrowed the total amount of your annual loan limit (or you have advanced a grade level). If you are planning to use a Parent PLUS or Grad PLUS loan, you must complete an additional application at . If you are planning to use an alternative loan, you must initiate the process with your lender. Aid will be disbursed based on the enrollment hours submitted on this form. If the Host institution transcript hours differ from the hours indicated on this form, you may be required to repay aid received.
